Stopped by my local Cabela's today ...

They won't even remove trigger locks.

Stopped in my local cabelas a couple weeks ago to shop for a new handgun. Had the sales rep get one out for me to hold and he wouldn't remove the trigger lock. Said it was a new policy. I mean the huge trigger locks that block the whole trigger guard. So you can't even feel how the gun fits your hand or feel the trigger. I laughed, thanked him for his time, drove to Field and Stream and bought a new handgun. Cabelas has lost their minds.

I won't go in a Field and Stream for sure. They are affiliated with Dicks's who are on my poo list.

As for Cabela's and Bass Pro, both are too far for me to go drive to and look at what they have. I'll stick with the LGS or maybe Academy if I want to buy new locally.

LolAnother apparent victim of this merger, the Bass Pro special smooth bone Buck knives were discontinued.

The Cabelas in Maine, gun locks on everything, no more bargain cave, fewer isles goodies, and gun room is the same as its been. Probably sell their stock and become PC. Sad.

Went to my local Cabelas in Augusta today. Used handgun counter GONE. Huge trigger locks on everything. Half their knife display Gone. Reloading supply area half gone. No Cheddite 209 primers in stock anymore(that's what I went for). Heck with them. Probably my last trip to that store. Really pulls a vaccuum that BP screwed it up so.

The Cabela's around here haven't suffered from the buyout,,, yet. Never did like Bass Pro. If their thumbprint gets too heavy on Cabela's, I'll go elsewhere, wherever elsewhere might be.

as Cabela's it a hundred away I don't get there often. I get all my guns from the local gun shop, if it's not in stock she will order it, I have in hand in about 5-6 days all my reloading equipment I order from Titian reloading. for powder and primers I get it from my sportsman's club, they order twice a year, good thing about that is no sales tax and no shipping; they normally get a truck load of shooting supplies. It's been several month since I have been to Bass Pro or Cabala's. They didn't have the gun locks. there was a good supply of powder and primers along with ammo.

Dunham's Sporting goods started selling hand guns maybe a year ago they have trigger locks on there guns and wont' take them off so you can check the action and trigger and hand fit. I ask them if they would buy a car with out driving it or at least sitting it? Of course the answer was no they would not. Thwm told them they just lost a sale. I guess if I went to Cabala's I would do the same. I am glad I have a really good local store.

I was wondering what changes would happen after Bass Pro took over. I thought the buyout would have been the other way around. I always thought BP was sort of over priced while Cabela's seemed fairly priced with often having good sales going on.

BP inherited a company (Cabelas) with 4.5 BILLION dollars of corporate debt that needs to be serviced and paid. Low margin items like guns and supplies get replaced with high margin stuff like clothes and impulse buy stuff.

Only if the consumer base plays along. An increasing number of these grand recovery schemes have failed simply because the sales never came back. Says much about the real state of the western economies, IMHO.

Went to the Bass Pro Shop in Concord Mills Mall yesterday. Despite the fact that it seemed like they had the AC turned off, to say it was disappointing was an understatement. Prices were SKY HIGH. Everytime I turned around someone was trying to shove a promotional flyer in my hand and get me to register for a drawing. One lady tried 3 times. The gun section was awful. Listened to a couple salesman and it was shameful. Prices ridiculous. I'll keep to online shopping.
