I’m a new gun owner, just got a sw9ve. I was at the range last week learning to shoot and had to leave for a work problem. The gun was still very hot when I put it into the plastic case. When I got home I noticed it burn into the foam liner. What is the correct procedure to store a hot-warm gun when leaving the range? I have a gun sock can I put it in the sock while it’s still hot to the touch? Any comments would be helpful. Thanks Rick

The correct procedure it to let the gun cool before putting it away. If that is not possible, put it in something that won't melt easily, i.e. a hard plastic case with no liner.
If you cased the gun so hot that is melted the foam liner, it would likely also melt a gun sock.

When the gun is still hot is a great time to clean it. By the time you are through, it will be cool enough to put away.

I seldom get guns that hot. If I do, then I allow them to cool unless an emergency. I guess you had an "emergency" at work. Leave it to cool with a friend at the range or put it somewhere that it won't cause a problem. You can always turn your "umbilical cord" off so an emergency won't interrupt a range session. I'm a selfish jerk with my time. Or, I shoot when nothing else can bother me except for a pulled shot. JMO By the way, Welcome to the forum......
