STRANGE RANGE?

I overheard a guy talking about building his garage range for his pistols today...Nothing out of the ordinary until he mentioned his bullet stop would be and inch of self healing hard rubber sheeting 24 inches by 24 inches over large thick walled steel box containing several hundred pounds of "CONCRETE CUT NAILS" .

These are small rectangular hardened steel nails anywhere from and inch to 4 inches long and his idea being the nails would disintegrate the bullet long before reaching the back of the box.

I didnt get the website where he found the info but has anyone else heard of this? Sort of a novel way to make a bullet stop...destroy the bullet instead of slow it down and stop it??!!

Might be a bit NASTY to clean I would think! but you could seperate the nails from lead under running water with a magnet?

Is he going to limit it to .22's? I set up my basement range for .22's and use standard bullet traps.

Lead contaminated water would make you nieghbors cringe if they heard about it.

Lead contaminated ANYTHING would have the moms in any neighborhood on the warpath LOL!

He was talking about 9MM and .45 that I heard of and the depth of the hardened nails would be at least 2 feet. I'm familiar with the nails and believe me they are really tough! but several hundred pounds in a box would seem to be almost a "Solid" surface with the weight of em and such?

There's a range around here that uses several feet of cut up tires for a backstop. It is very effective although you can see sparks when M855 hits steel cords and firing a .375 H&H indoors is quite something to behold. Joe

Glad he's not my neighbor. At my range we have a dirt berm 20' high and we still get retards shooting holes through the roof of the awning covering the benches and over the berm. But I'm sure he's ok.
