When a full moon occurs on the first day of summer, it is called a strawberry moon.

At 11 PM last night, I set up my tripod and used my Canon 70D with a Sigma 150-500mm lens at 500mm to take a photo of the moon.

Here is the result after cropping and adjusting the Histogram to improve contrast.

Joe, according to Druid legend, to assure good luck, it's necessary to dance naked and burn money under a full moon:eek::eek: Dancing or not, that's a great photo.

The above just helps to prove I'm, still, a fount of mindless trivia.

Fred, you'd do ( insert your own wording at your own peril
)justice. I deleted part of my comment as im SURE it broke various rules. :D

No wonder I went to the farm yesterday to pick some strawberry's, fresh picked are so much better than store bought.:)

Hey Joe-is this a Cajun trick!? That dot in the lower center makes it look like a basket ball with some "stuff" smeared on it (?) and by the way a friend who is an LSU grad was cheered by your "first woman president" story, thanks. He just had his second open heart surgery-he's good-praise the Lord-Whew!

If I were to dance naked under a full moon, there would be 2 full moons.:eek::eek:

The fount of trivia is appreciated Fred, but my friend put your clothes back on and quit dancing. :D

That 'dot' is Tycho Crater, a relatively recent crater (seveal million years). It's 52 miles in diameter and the floor is depressed 3 miles from the surrounding surface. The light colored rays eminating several hundred miles from the crater are ejecta from the impact. It's a popular subject for amateur astronomers to observe.

I bet that smarted.

Does anyone else see a human embryo and a poodle in the moon? Maybe I just have a vivid imagination.

Nice photo, Joe. :)

No strawberries here. I did eat blackberries this week. I'll get some strawberries at the grocer.

I used Photoshop Elements 13. The only things that I did was crop the 20 megapixel original photo to 25% and then use the Histogram to fine tune the contrast. I took the photo with a Canon 70D using manual settings ISO 100, f8, 125 sec, manual focus. I mounted the camera on a tripod. The original photo looks like what you would see looking at the moon which is more light than the adjusted photo. The Histogram allows you to see the detail that the camera picks up behind the bright.

Here is the original image reduced to 25%.
