Striker fired semiautomatic pistols' safeties?

Why would the firing mechanisms of my carry and HD pistols matter to anyone here?

To answer that question generally, and not pertaining to any specific member on this forum or in this thread, people get their ego invested in their choice of hardware. This causes them to defend their choice at all costs, because an attack on their choice is now a personal attack despite facts and evidence laid in front of them.

What concerns me most with these pistols is how they will hold up down the road, years and decades later after use and abuse. All you have there is a little piece of metal holding back that hammer. Like all mechanical devices, things wear out over time and what's to say that a hard enough bump or jar won't set that thing off some day and Murphy says these things tend to happen at the worst possible moments. With an external safety you at least have a secondary back up in case the primary fails. If you don't like the safety, don't use it, I don't see why it's a big deal. Nobody questions why long guns have safeties so why is it such a problem with semi-autos?

While I don't have any statistics to back me up...

I have 2 30 year old Gen 2 Glocks that still function perfectly. After studying a 15 minute video a couple of times, I was able to replace all parts in the slide and the frame.

I prefer DA/SA pistols myself. Realistically though, striker fire pistols are here to stay. Objectively, they should last 30 years.

I defer to these words of absolute wisdom posted in another thread.

I plan to quote this henceforth.
