I got a notification S&W was going to ship 940s again. Called all around to local shops, nobody has one. I called Red's Indoor Range in Pflugerville (range and gun shop close by) and they stated they 'didn't have one, and can't get one'. Harumph. S&W says it's a Davidson's exclusive. I called Davidson's. They've got a bunch of them. Want to sell them. They took a $250 deposit over the phone. Balance is due on receipt at the gun shop. What was so hard about that?

Gun stores, like most other businesses, hire from the same pool and a certain number of these employee's are not enthusiastic nor driven to work hard. I understand they could have been too busy to help with something out of their ordinary work duties. I also see the ordinary work force in businesses and know many of employees will not do more than they have too. I'm glad you took the initiative to do some checking and find the gun on your own.

This ^^. Don

Have gone to Red's for 2 decades and they only care about what is in the case.
e.g. Wanted a 629 4" and ready to put down 100% cash. They pushed a 6" and would rather walk my business than order one.

There's a store here that has the largest selection and some of the best prices, but they have had bad reviews on their customer service. They are a very busy shop and they seem to want to use McDonald's business plan. You come in, tell them what you want, you say yes or no, and that's it. "They're not here to answer questions, they're here to sell guns." If by "sell" you mean do paperwork and take payment, yes. Otherwise they rely on their selection and prices. Seems to work as they are, as previously mentioned, very busy.

I've noticed a lot of businesses are that way these days, you get mad and don't come back means less work for them.

Everyone wants a tip for doing the job they're paid to do (not talking about waiters & waitresses).

Most shops would probably prefer to sell what is in their display case, that's only logical, but if a customer offers payment in advance it's a special kind of fool that won't do the little extra work to order the item. I've not bumped into that scenario. Seems really odd. 😵‍💫 Maybe Davidson's is cutting out dealers in this case? I have heard of them but don't know how they operate. Would be interested to know. Maybe dealers have to come up with a minimum order?

I get the feeling lots of gun shops don't know that the Internet was invented. Everyone knows what a gun should cost. Guys could do well offering good service and charging a premium for it

The only gun I'm likely to buy out of the display cases at a local shop will be used. New guns are better priced online, and there are plenty of reputable dealers. LGS receives it for $20, and their FFL is already on file with many of the online shops.

During the lockdown panic buying, Davidson's basically told smaller FFLs to pound sand or take the heat for markups by asking full retail price on hotter selling guns.

I wouldn't be surprised if that left a bad taste in some smaller dealers' mouths.

As many of you know I'm looking for a Nickel 6.5 M-24. I've visited all the few LGS in my area. None are very busy and all have the same stuff, new plastic. No used revolvers at all. As soon as I say what I'm looking for they hop on their computer and go right to Gunbroker. It's as if I don't know what the internet is! No one has a clue what I'm talking about. They are surprised to find out it's not new. One guy said if it wasn't in the S&W catalogue it never existed. Do they actually think I didn't do any research at all? No wonder gunshops are closing all around here.

Well duh!

It's a Davidsons exclusive.

Not all gun stores buy from them.

My closest friend just closed his doors because of communist gun laws and idiot customers that always want a deal even though they never set foot in his shop.

Ever thinking about getting to know these people and developing a relationship?

Got no sympathy for ya.
