Stuck in the 20th Century

Way back during the first 6.5 mm flurry,
Every Gun Rag screamed get a 264 Win Mag or stay home with your Mother!
My Buddy Mike caved. Got a FN Supreme Action with a 26 Inch heavy Douglas Barrel. Got it from Flaig’s Baby!
Then got a local Smith to stock it. We were both out in Cali, at different bases.
Stocked, scoped, sling, ammo - about 13 Pounds!
Mike was a pretty good sized dude, but deer hunting in the N Cali Coastal Range - that gun wore him out!
Me? Shooting a Win 88 in 308.

20th Century? For sure. I find myself for sale in the antique and collectible markets, except I have the sexy label "Mid-Century Modern". Who'd a thunk it, a caveman like me being considered modern? Ha, next thing someone will be referring to me as a Renaissance Man!!

While not as old as some here (my 40th high school reunion is this year for perspective), I am the 2nd oldest active member in the FD (age, not time of service).

I get it. The newest rifle caliber I own is .223 Remington/5.56mm, which dates back to the 50's. AFAIC all the rifle calibers needed have already been introduced years ago. Anything else is reinventing the wheel IMHO

The newest pistol caliber I have is the .40 S&W, and I only got into that was due to an interest in the readily available and affordable 3rd Gen LEO trade in pistols, plus the price of the ammo dropping. I do have 2 M&P's in .40 and couldn't be happier.

There was a song called "It's All Be Done (Before)" in the 90's. That's how I sum up firearms and calibers.

Don't even get me started on music.

I use a cell phone, we stream lots of shows, we have no land line, I am addicted to you tube how to videos (even if I never will), I get the American Hunter magazine with my NRA membership.

I have the most fun with my Ruger 10/22 and I could get by with 4 guns.

A 12 gauge, a model 586 6", a Ruger 10/22 and a TC with 30-06 and 50 Cal muzzle loader barrels.

So, I am in the 21st century to some extent.

Tech wise, yes.

Gun wise, put on your parachute pants and Members Only jacket.
