Stumbled on a SR1911 (pics)...

some problems....
I shot the SR1911 for the first time this past week and at first I thought that I was having major problems. After firing off 2 rounds, the gun jammed with a round not quite seated in the chamber and the loaded mag would not drop with the release. After fiddling a bit, I pulled the slide back some and the mag dropped (with the release) and when I racked the slide, the jammed round dropped through the mag well. I tried again, using the same round (I know) and repeated the same problem. After clearing it again, I put a fresh round on top. The mag would not seat (just kept sliding down.) I worked the release a bit and it finally grabbed. From that point, I put about 135-140 rounds through it without a hitch - some rapid fire.
The gun is pretty accurate - as much as I am, so I was not disappointed. In hind sight, I probably should have cleaned/oiled it before shooting it for the first time (I shot it right out of the box.)
I will continue shooting it with each range visit (about every 2 weeks) and will report back in the future (good or bad.)

Any new 1911 with tight tolerances, which seem to be the norm these days from the good manufacturers who employ CNC machining/digital controls and new tooling, requires a good number of rounds before they can be expected to function reliably.
That Ruger is a fine looking gun and I am more than interested in how they shoot. Might have to add one to my wish list.

I purchased my Ruger SR1911 about 8 weeks ago. I noticed it came dry so I used some Mil Spec lube on the rails. I ordered the Ruger rubber grips form Ruger on line store and I would guess I have shot 600 rounds through it. I have used Ruger supplied magazines, Chp Mc Cormick and Wilson magazines with no problems.
Is main spring housing only flat, or can you get an arched version?

Thanks for the report (and the pics) Lou. It does look like a lot of gun for the money. I would be curious to get a range report from you once it is broken in. Best of luck with it!

Had an opportunity last week to visit Grice's Gun Shop in Clearfield,Pa.
Touted as the biggest gun shop in Pa.I can believe that.I swear I saw a
SR 1911 blue with ambi safety for 699.00 Went on Ruger's website and saw only stainless.I admit I was a little overwhelmed by their vast selection but anyone else seen one of these or was I just lightheaded and confused.You got a great looking gun there Loutent and I am sure it will be troublefree once it has been shot enough.Thanks for the look.
