There were 2 guys in our Squadron that went ashore at Cam Ranh Bay, each with 2 one gallon cans of peaches and traded them for some female companionship. They were both sent back to the States with an unknown STD...never saw them again.

Legend had it that they were sent to an island, somewhat like a leper colony, for the rest of their short, painful lives. This was supposed to prevent the spread into the general population.

Also, their next of kin got a message about them being killed in the line of duty...

Who knows what the truth was.

I have the distinction of being one of the few Department Heads ever to get reamed by the XO for having a Division Officer get caught for curfew violation. Division Officer got put in hack for a week for that one. Div Off was - you guessed it - Academy.
