Most semiautomatic .22LR firearms won't cycle with subsonics unless you have a suppressor. Some won't even cycle with standard velocity. I'm pretty sure all my firearm manuals for my semiautomatics recommend high velocity for best reliability.

My 15-22 cycles Winchester Super X sub sonics quite happily.

Clean and lube the bolt rails. You can consider sanding them with some super fine grit paper to remove any burrs or imperfections.

I don't know if you get it but my gun also happily devours Remington Sub Sonics. It prefers the heavier 40gr+ stuff though.

I'm surprised the Eley didn't work.

If you want to run it 100% on subs then you can look at how the 15-22 Pistol bolt was lightened and get a smith to machine some lighting cuts in your bolt. But that's a permanent solution with its own problems.

thanx. what lube do you all use.

CCI and Aguila standard velocity both run 100% reliably in my 15/22. Both are subsonic. Why trouble yourself with ammo that is more subsonic.

The Federal American Eagle

iipsrv.fcgi

They offer a 45 grain copper plated round nose subsonic that usually will work in the more stubborn semi autos

Though, I have never tried it in a M&P 15-22

I mostly shoot SV & SS ammos and my M&P 15/22 cycles the Federal American Eagle 45gr 970fps ammo just fine (I don't own a suppressor). In fact, it cycles everything I feed it except for slower ammo.
The only HV ammo that I've had issues with is Remington Thunderbolts.

i' shot about 200 subsonics yesterday.

CCI subsonic and cci suppressor, no problems

that said, they are both on the higher scale of velocity when it comes to subs, subsonic being 1040 (or 70, cant remember) and supressor at 970, both just under speed of sound. it's lower grain than that federal suppressor above as well, (32g)

onethings forsure though.. you really do notice the difference between those 2 carts. cci suppressor much quieter than the sub, even though the difference is in the matter of 10s

i actually bought them a while back because i wanted a subsonic that would cycle my pistol, and with those higher numbers then say something in the 700 range you get a little more umpf but still 'quieter' than normal. still had a few ftfs with that, id say probably 7 ftfs out of 100 in the handgun, nothing but a slide rack to fix.

but beware. they are louder than the weakest sub thats forsure

The salesman did not lie to you they will shoot subsonic, but will not cycle them, the only thing that I have found that will cycle subs is a revolver

My 15-22 cycles Remington Subs and Winchester Super X sub sonics happily. It does cycle on S&B, subs but I only fired a couple mags of those. It doesn't like Swartklip subs very well but they don't make those any more.
