I received as a present from a friend a Ruger Security Six 150 series.

The gun is in very good shape, except for the rear sight which I intend to change (Numrich has them), and I was thinking in changing the front sight with a XSIGHTS big dot.

Any suggestions regarding these modifications are welcome.

This is the first Ruger Revolver I ever have.

Thanks in advance

Since you don't have any money in the revolver, you can dress it up without $$$ concern. My view is strictly personal, which is conservative. I think night sights are fine but essentially not necessary in the real world. I don't particularly like adjustable sights on a SD revolver, so my opinion is to spend that $75 on ammo and practice.

Gene, thank you for the quick response. I might ad that as I get older (54 now) i realize that I need "something" brighter to help aiming.

It can also be a hi viz type of front sight

well, I myself am 76, going on 77, and my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be. I think my Sig 365 has night sights on it, but I'm not sure. I certainly wouldn't replace that sight with an after-market non-tritium sight so my opinion is mostly $$. As I posted earlier since it was given to you $$ isn't an issue.

Just depends on personal choice.

I'm 72 years old and have had my Security Six 150- since 1971. I have poor eyesight and need bifocals.

My SS is the best shooting and most accurate handgun I own. I would never change the sights. Can't fix what ain't broken.

XS tritium with a wide notch is a good picture for me. With a standard size dot, a rear U notch of about .156 is pretty fast. With the Big Dot, it takes about a .300 opening. YMMV.

I bought a Tritium front sight from Dawson Precision. (Good people to work with). It was taller, so I had to go with a taller rear blade from a Ruger Redhawk. I wound up with my preferred sight picture of a front night sight and a black rear.
I was 54 too.....
