Hey all.

I'd like to try other grips on my 65 and find which ones feel best when shooting. I was looking at some of the Pachmayr grips and of course I like the rounded butt rubber grips. They also have some others that look really interesting too. It looks like they're made from that linen micarta stuff like VZ Grips uses. The Pachmayrs come in a few different colors and they are carry grips. They also have finger grooves. I was curious if anyone has tried these.

Which of the round butt rubber Pachmayr grips is the one that allows the back of the grip frame to show? I don't know if the Compac rubber grip fits the K frame.

Any grip suggestions that look good as well as work well when carrying would be great.

How about showing off your 65 3" with nice grips? I can use some ideas. If you have a nice revolver other than a 65, by all means post it and let us all enjoy it.

Thank you all for helping me.

The open back Pach's are the " Compact Professional" model.

IMO the best of the best are Spegel's Boot Grips..... they must be good as he has a 2 year backlog of orders.

Factory round butt target grips/ "Banana grip" are nice......pricey these days........and not real easy to find..... also they can be shortened to boot grip length.... I did a few back in the 80s when a set of "used" grips sold for $5-10.

Hogue has some really comfortable grips, I don't have any for my revolvers but have a set on my AR and love them.

If you want something "pretty", but that form to your hands, bigger than the magna stocks but smaller than Target stocks, look at Altamont. They always fit perfectly to the frame, look great, lots of styles, and reasonably priced. They are my go-to for replacing my factory stocks to keep them in undamaged shape. I don't have a M65 (yet), but here's a M19-3, M28-2 and M57 all wearing Altamonts. The M29-2 at the top has factory Presentation stocks.

A second endorsement for the Compacs, either the Professional or the slightly larger front-to-back standard version.

In times past, I would have always recommended Ahrends. I was thinking about getting a new set and went to Kim's website and sadly saw he went under last year. Very sad.

These were my very favorite K/L round butt grips.

That's what I got on mine.

If still considering the Pachmayrs, you may wish to do a search for their website and see pictures of their grips. They are part of Lyman.

I currently run their Compacs on my Model 13-2, 3". I'm very satisfied with them. Not as esthetically pleasing as the wooden grips, but very utilitarian.

If you opt for them though, occasionally remove the grips to check for any trapped moisture from rain, sweat, grunge, etc.

HTH.

I just went Altamonts website. They are sold out of nearly everything for round butt K/L frames grips. I think only bonded "ivory" are in stock.

They are certainly not very stylish but the Pachmayer Compacs are the most comfortable grip I have ever used on K frame S&W s with a round butt.

Another vote for Pac Compac Professional (open backstrap). They have been my favorites for actually shooting K frame round butts for 30+ years. The only drawback is they can print under light cloth when carrying concealed. And they're not pretty...

Here's a set on my K comp 19...

Another option is the PGS Hideout grips. I'm currently trying a set of these on my M65 to see if they can win me over. They're a hard plastic available smooth, or lightly textured. The shape is very close to the Pac Compac Pros.

I've been known to be very fickle about revolver grips. Here are some that I've tried and use. The "rubber grips" feel better shooting but they are not as good looking as the wood grips.

Hogue Bantam Grips.

Pachmayr Compac Pro

Uncle Mikes (I personally don't like these)

S&W factory combat grips

Altamont Faux Ivory with BK grip adapter.

S&W round butt target (Banana Grips) these are some of the more comfortable shooting wood grips

Factory grips on 65-5

Badger Grips

My best looking grips, Craig Spegel extended boot grips

These are VZ grips with checkered sides, which I prefer to their non-checkered options. They 'fit' my hands better than most (I am a LEFTY, so I like the right-side's top-edge for my left thumb), but other options are better for concealed carry.

I don't usually like sticky/mushy rubber grips, but the Hogue Bantam grips on a round-butt Smith aren't too bad.

Haven't received them yet but here's what my 13-2 3" round butt will look like with Pachmayr Compac Pro grips. The Pro models are not to be confused with the straight up Pachmayr Compac grips which are slightly larger and don't have the pronounced curve to them.

I'll also attach photos of my Model 60-15 with wooden Altamonts and then with OEM S&W rubber grips. The S&W rubber grips aren't real sexy but they provide an excellent grip for those nasty .357 rounds. Like them a lot.
