So another member of this board was gracious enough to sell me one of his 3" 625-3's; a revolver I have been wanting for some time.

My chief is a transplant/former assistant chief of a large municipal law enforcement agency in Texas and was quite receptive when I requested to carry this as my primary sidearm in my plain-clothes assignment!

So, while I have been hoping to come across one of these fine revolvers for some time, I have never given any consideration to what stocks I wanted to put on it nor did I consider that not everone manufacturer makes a good pancake holster for a 3" N frame revolver.

Can you guys and gals suggest some stocks? (I'm quite partial to wood AND boot grip-style stocks) Can you also point me toward some quality pancake style holsters as well?

I'm having a set of XS Big Dot tritium sights installed as General Orders require night sights. I've found these work best for me on all my guns.

Any help will be greatly appreciated and I would love to see photos of your examples.

Thanks

Nice score sir on a great revolver! You are very well protected with that .45, which is my favorite caliber for SD. I would slap a set of Ahrends finger groove grips on that baby. If they aren't a perfect fit for your hand you can always sand down the finger grooves until they fit you perfectly. After you've done the sanding (IF needed) a couple of coats of poly, a light sanding with fine sandpaper or steel wool after drying between coats and a wax job will bring it back to a beautiful finish.

I'd recommend a TT Gunleather, HBE Leatherworks or a Lobo holster for that beauty if you don't have to have a retension system. All are high quality. Lobo makes a great product and his turn around time is 4-5 weeks. You'll wait longer for the other two holsters.

I've been wanting your revolver for years and will have one someday for my collection.

Stay safe and congrats!

Holster

For the holster I recommend the "Sourdough" from Simply Rugged Holsters. The owner, Rob, is a great guy. I have
several holstersmade by Rob for auto's and revolvers. He makes some beatiful stuff covered in croc or shark for the price you buy a leather only holster from some other makers. Look up his website. His turn around time is about 4 weekswhich is quick for a custom made holster.

For grips Ahrends

I am just a faithful customer of Rob I have never met him

Like many here, I too have a warm spot in my heart for short barrelled N-Frames.

My 3" 625-3 wears Ahrends combat grips - and I like them very much...

My 3" 24-3 wears a set of Ahrends boot grips - they work, but I prefer the combats...

If you like boot grips, I'll make you a fair deal on these.

My 3" 657 has a set of Ahrends "Retro Banana" grips, and they feel good to me also...

Enjoy your 625 - they are great guns!

Take care,

When I carry my 625 and show someone my Spegels they just go WoW.
Stunning and practical.

The boot grips are small and good for carry.

I would look at the offerings by Lefty Lewis of Bell Charter Oaks Custom Holsters. He is a Forum member who advertises in the Vendor section. He has a variety of traditional and unique styles for every application. The quality, fit, finish, and workmanship of his holsters is superb. Prices and turnaround time are VERY reasonable. He's an ex NYC PD dick, who loves cops and veterans. He'll treat you right. Take a peek at his stuff, and tell him one eye joe sent ya. You wont be dissapointed. With regard to grips, I favor Ahrends. They have a coupla styles, including the one that you favor, in a variety of wood (the "Retro Bananas" posted above would do you well). I use the smooth round butt to square grip conversions in Tung Oil finished Moradillo, shown below. Prices are reasonable, and quality is superb. They are all I use on my shooters. The 625-3 is my favorite S&W, super accurate in the great .45ACP caliber. Congrats on your purchase of a fine weapon. Stay safe, and post some pics when you're finished setting it up for duty............

I just picked up (also from a fellow forum member) a S&W 325NG - which brings to SIX the .45s in my collection (including a .45Colt and .454Casull). Great caliber and in the short barrel versions a great SD revolver. Now, if I could only find a 3" version of my 657.....

I can't speak to holsters but I really like these Nill grips. They are not te smallest but they do fit my big hand well. Probably the best grip ergos I have ever felt.
