My 22A is a plinker and student loaner but I was looking at Bud's today and saw a REALLY inexpensive red dot scope for next to nothing.

I thought it MIGHT be a reasonable way to toss something on there just for kicks. I'd like to get feedback from those of you that have scoped their 22As. Mounts necessary...costs...pics would be outstanding.

Thanks for the help.

I have a BSA GD30 that I use on my 22A. It's great for plinking steel plates. The mount has large thumbscrews but a screwdriver is needed to keep it from coming loose. The mount also rubs the paint off the rail. For NRA Basic Pistol instruction I stick with iron sights.

The Red Dot version is http://www.bsaoptics.com/scope.aspx?product=84

Thanks for your suggestion. Time to check eBay.
And no, of course this isn't for student use. It's for my plinking.

Thanks again.

Just wanted to note that after initially being discouraged with the 22A I bought a few years ago, once I placed a BSA red dot on it, and located, through trial and error, a 22lr round it liked, that dicouragement was replaced with all smiles...

Mine is plenty accurate...just REALLY particular about what it eats. If it's not high velocity, don't even waste the time loading the mag.

bj,

You need to be careful with the smaller red dot sights as far as fit goes. I first bought the Tasco version of the BSA mentioned and it would not fit in the slots on the rail. I would up sending it back.

I now have a longer red dot sight, which afforded me more options in terms of attaching it to the gun.

I put a cheap $25 Tru-Glo red dot on my 22A. It fit right on and works perfectly, makes the 22A a very accurate plinker. Love that 22 !!!
