Hi - finding this difficult with the small bore diameter - almost impossible to clean with a cleaning road without touching the lands with the sides of a cleaning road - would a pull through and where could i get one- use this revolver for competitive metallic silhouette

Most cleaning rods are made of aluminum and won't harm your barrel or rifling. If you want to use a "pull-through", you can get a "Bore Snake" for about $15 at most gun stores. However, these are not a good substitute for a cleaning rod/copper bore brush combination for removing lead and crud from the bore and chambers.

My 2 cents.

.17 caliber rods and jags are my tools of choice when cleaning my .22s.

When using a good quality ammo cleaning the bore of a .22 is only done when accuracy falls off. Clean the chambers every session, but leave the bore alone until you notice your accuracy going south. More .22lr barrels are ruined by over cleaning than buy under cleaning.

Thanks Lorin and Guy-Harold
In South Africa where I hail from we have very limited tools of the trade available and what is currently the trend here is a stainless steel rod or a brass rod. What is particularly interesting, is the idea of using a .17 caliber rod - the difficulty which I foresee is to locate one locally!
I noted that you mentioned that one should not clean the bore too often and I intend to follow this advice.

Good advice. You pretty much DON'T clean the barrel. I shot silhouettes, NRA Hunter Pistol, rams at 100 yds (or meters depending), with my 617 (with a 30mm Pro-Point red dot) for quite a while. It was fun beating the guys with (mostly) Contenders or "match" .22 semi-autos. Don't clean the barrel. Mine get many more rds now shooting steel challenge mostly but they go 10,000+ rds without a brush or patch thru the barrel. Just clean the chambers.

So I learn!!! - thank you for your in put. I will now only clean the cylinder chambers - I can now relax and enjoy gun:)
