My wife's office went to the company range yesterday. (long story, but it's a great place to work :D) I packed her a "goodie bag" containing a Model 10, a P-22, a 990L, and a LCP, along with eyes, ears and ammo. She's shot the 10 and the P-22 before and shoots them well. The problem was the double action triggers on the 990L and the LCP. The trigger pull is so long that she is bringing the muzzle down before the pull is finished. She is hitting either way low on the target, or under the target. This is not a problem I've had and I don't know how to help her correct it. Any suggestions? (Other than trading all my double action pistols for single action pistols)

Maybe the Sigma trigger kit would help?:D

J/K Some say to place a penny on top of the slide and practice dry firing not knocking the penny off.

My first suggestion would be a bunch of dry fire practice. When she can hold the front sight steady while dry firing her groups will get better. I'd do maybe 20 or 30 dry fires at a time...maybe two or three times a day just to get her used to it and allow her to find a method that works for her.

Just my 2 cents...and I hear that with the dollar dropping like it has my opinion ain't even worth that anymore.

My wife had a problem with sights. Used a single shot pellet gun in the basement and she backed up as she shot better. Not sure why she couldn't line up the sites. Let her use the easiest gun she can handle. Larry

A friend is teaching his wife using an air soft double action revolver (resembles a S&W M19) w/a long pull. They set up a "range" in the basement and it seems to help.

I had a similar problem with my 642 the first time I took it to the range. After some practice I got used to the trigger and was able to keep the revolver straight while pulling the trigger. Funny thing is after practicing with the 642 my aim with my M&P 9MM got substantiably better.

If you have a gun with a laser use it while dry firing. I don't recomend using a laser for shooting but I have found it is a great teaching aid for some people to learn trigger pull. Larry

I've found that a lot of women have a problem with double action because of the strength, or lack there of, in their hand. They tend to pull with the entire hand and this will cause the muzzle to pull down. Give her some sort of exercise like a rubber ball to squeeze and see if that will help.
