I just shot some 38 Supersnub +p's in various guns.[k6s 3in,gp100 3in,
blackhawk 5 1/5]
All I can say is " WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Just found my city carry revolver load!!!

I recall when Super Vel (SV) came out and an official order came down prohibiting the carry/use of SV on our issued revolvers. This was in the day of the 158 grain standard pressure round nose that was not getting the job done and some cops were sneaking it into their guns.

Referring back to post #1, the 38 'supersnub' +P is from the current Super Vel offerings. 90gr. JHP, advertised 1300-1400 fps from 2' barrels.

IIRC, I first shot .357Mag S-V in my 6" M19 in the early seventies, or possibly the late sixties. What impressed me most was the light recoil from what I believed was a superior stopper. Probably was.

I still have a few boxes of .38Spl S-V. My chronograph said 1180fps in my 4" M10, 1250 fps in my 6" Official Police.

Jay-The company is based in Vegas. It is a brand that was bought out of bankruptcy. I used to carry the original stuff in the 70’s. I particularly like their 147 Grain 9mm Hush Puppy rounds in my suppressed MPX. I’ve shot a ton of it with very satisfactory results. The SuperSnub is a really hot load. I’m wondering about shooting them in a lightweight/scandium J-Frame. There are five rounds in my 638 right now. And five more in a Model 60 that I carry.

Recall when the Super-Vel came out long ago. Believe it was Lee Jurras was the man behind the ammo.

I fired a box or two of Super Vel 110 gr JHP out of a S&W M 19 6" Bbl back in the early 70's. I remember it as being fairly hot and fired cases exhibited flattened primers. It showed good penetration; usually going through both doors of junker autos. However, I noticed that all the chamber walls adjacent to the cylinder locking notches were slightly dimpled. Stopped shooting that ammo after I saw that.

used to carry the 137 grain SV back in the early 70's in the model 19. Great load. Could penetrate a car door with the window rolled down.

The 110 grainers had a tendency to breakup on windshields.

Like many ammos n the '70s (and maybe now), Super Vel velocities were often considerably lower than advertised. Granted, changeable factors come into play here, but it's interesting to look at the old Speer tables where they chronographed actual velocities of factory ammo.

Super Vel was a heck of a load in its day.

I have yet to shoot the new stuff but I would only use it in a K frame or better.

My little snub nose J frame M49 is doing all it can with a little 110gr JHP
doing 996 fps out of it at ten feet , across my chrony.

A medium 110gr out of my 686 6" will cross the screen at 1132 fps but
if I boost the 110gr up to a Treasery Loading it will be doing 1305 fps.

Nothing to sneeze at.
