Surplus Berettas

The past few years I've figured out (I'm slow!) that these Berettas are well worth, to me anyway, the money I spent on them. If I want to keep a pistol stashed in different places in my house for extinguishing uninvited guests and need something reliable, these older guns seem to fit the bill. For what I paid for one of my GP100s, the price of these 3 pistols, minus the new handles on 2 of them, pretty much evens out. I take into consideration the cost and availability (before the recent bulloney) of 9mm and .32ACP vs. .327 Federal Magnum ammo, also. A new S&W revolver, while a darn good gun also, would definitely be more $$$. I'm just saying, I guess, is it doesn't have to cost a fortune to arm yourself with a quality reliable tool. Also, we have a pretty darn good Beretta guy & all-around good gunsmith 35 minutes from my house here in da 'burgh. (I had to put the family in here also!)

The surplus Beretta market has been great over the past couple of years. Like you I've purchased a few, model 1951 and 92s. Both were excellent firearms and ran great. I got each for about $300 a piece. My only issue with some of the earlier handguns have been their sights, which are typically very small. Sometimes my eyes struggle with them. That being said they all still hit what I was pointing at. Prior to this nonsense, I still think some of the police trade in Glocks (gen 3) are also some of the best deals out there. Not because it is a superior quality of gun but because of the aftermarket support that allowed you to build it however you want.

I’m a Beretta fan and I picked up on a very nice 92S and an 81.
Both came to me looking like they were never issued. Of course I replaced the grips with some really nice wood!
One of my main carry pieces is an 8040 Cougar!

I had bought a NIB 81 and then the surplus 81s hit the market. I bought a surplus 81 and the NIB is still unfired. I also picked up a 71 and 85. I had a 92s but really didn't like it so I sold it.

Yeah, I have a discontinued Sig. Just about everybody wants $50 for a magazine and Sig no longer supports the model. That doesn't mean parts aren't available but they won't be easy to find.

I like that pistol a lot so I'm not terribly worried about it. Some people will throw the baby out with the bath water. I got a bunch of mags before they hosed everyone. Not a real big fan of the new management at Sig.

Beretta may be a better company.

I've picked up a number of surplus Berettas in the last few years. I've picked up a 92S, M1951, M1934, and on Sunday lucked out and won a GB auction for a 84F - an Israeli trade.

The 84 was the toughest for me to get. In the last few months, they've gone crazy. A couple of months ago one went for $1000! Here's the completed auction from June 869969559

Sadly, I hesitated when the surplus Beretta 92s were on the market for $299 a year ago, so I missed out...

I said I'd never buy another firearm online, but PSA is tempting me right now... Ah, but knowing my luck I'll get the absolute worst example possible if I bite.

I assume the surplus Berettas are all made in Italy. I have a 92F made in Italy. When researching Berettas I discovered that those made in Italy can be dated by a 2 digit alpha code in a small square box stamped on the frame. Mine is stamped on the right side of the trigger guard. Dated to 1985. There is a reference chart on line somewhere that you can use to decipher the code.
