background:

60+, wear trifocals, iron sight shooting is tough

M41 w/red dot is easier

Haven't practiced with the 5 screw K22 in a month.

Said, "What the heck? Take it out of the safe and shoot it!"

Silhouette match this morning:

I scored higher with the K22 than the M41 (which I've been doing a LOT of practice with)!

Lesson Learned:
Do NOT neglect the K22! Shoot it!

Placed 2nd in my class in both irons and optics. Woot!

.22 wheelguns are the king of under-appreciated firearms, in my opinion. I have been in conversations over and over again with people about target shooting, and they tell me "I'm going to get a Glock 34 for target shooting. I like the long sight radius"
I shake my head and walk away.

Several years back, when I was assigned to the Army Marksmanship Unit in FT Benning, I was doing some machine-rest testing of my newly rebuilt .45 wadcutter gun. I had just gotten my 17-3 back from the factory; I had a higher front sight installed, the carry-up adjusted and the end-shake removed. Just to see what it was capable of, I machine-rested my K22 with issued Eley Tenex match ammo (at 50 yds). 6 rounds went into 1.1". My Hammerli 208S went under an inch, with a 10-shot group. Not bad for an "obsolete" revolver. I have no doubt that further testing with different ammo lots, using one chamber only, would have shown even better accuracy, rivaling my Swiss .22 match pistol.

My Colt Officers Match .22 revolver from 1966 will "try" to keep up with the Model 41, but nothing I've ever owned can quite beat it.

Nice shootin, roughly what year was the K-22 made? Larry

Thanks!

1953, I do believe

But I shot new ammo in it. :)

Aw, you mean you couldn't find old ammo to use? I have a one line address k-22 and it shoots everything I feed it accurately. If someone is watching the targets when I shoot it, it makes me look like I know what I'm doing. I shot a model 41 in bullseye for abt 10-12 yrs and at 50' off something steady it shoots one hole groups with a red dot and CCI std vel. Never shot the K-22 with a scope to compare it. May have to do that one day, I have a B-square mount and an extra pistol scope. Nice looking gun and you have all the accessories with it. Larry

No surprise here. I own 3 of the 5 screw K-22's and they
will all outshoot me.

And, for, the record I just happen to shoot the K22 better this morning. I really don't think one is "better" than the other. I'm new to accurate handguns.

Here's a M41 target from when I was practicing.

Red bullseye is 1.5"

I was spraying it with an inexpensive red dot and cheap ammo.

My Dad had a K-22 and a .44 HE No.2. I have the old .44. I'm guessing my brother has the .22. The last time I saw it, there were black plastic grips with small raised violets on it. Just for curiosity, I'd like to know where the "violet" grips came from.
