Hi. I just received a Model 28 Highway Patrolman from my F.F.L. today. The seller had the ad listed as a 28-2. Ends up, it is a no dash gun. Serial # S2011xx, 6". I know that no dashes were 1954-1960. Can anybody get me a little closer? Would the gun's value be higher being a no dash vs. a -2? My F.F.L. said he thought it to be 99%. I would put it at around 95%. Thanks in advance for your insight! Bob

SCSW says '59-60, no real way to know when it was shipped unless you get it lettered. Congratulations on a great find! P;ease post pictures and add this to the "Ultimate Highway Patrolman thread" under the sticky section in the 1961=1980 section. You have a late no dash, and the information will help researchers. Is yours a 3 or 4 screw?

Thanks A10, that's as close as I need to be! I only have 1 lettered gun, a 1905 4th, shipped June 1919.
This is my 1st N Frame. It came with N Pachs on it. I put a pair of 1973 K service stocks on it, and they seem to fit perfectly. ( from a 67) Is it normal for K's to fit N's? They appear to fit perfectly.
If you count the screw in front of the trigger guard, it is a 4.
Thanks again, Bob

The K service stocks should be 1/16" too short front to back at the bottom, and a little too short at the top and front-to-back also. Any possibility they were N Magna stocks?

murphydog, I get goofed up on grip terminology. They are probably magnas, but were off of a 67 no dash that I bought last year. They seemed to fit that perfectly. On the 28, they fit perfectly too! Bob

By the serial number, it should be a four-screw. (IE, it has the screw in the front of the trigger guard that was later deleted from the design).

I certainly think that it would sell for more than a -2 in similar condition, being that the -2 was in production for some twenty years and is therefore much more commonly encountered. The "no dash" was produced just a couple of years.

The revolver would sell for more then a -2 dash being a relativily short production run and the fact that's it's a 4 screw revolver. The S serial number also makes it more attractive to buyers also.

S199543 shipped May of 1960.

S211137 shipped June of 1961.

So, at approximately 11,500-12,000 units per year, assuming the S199543 gun and yours shipped close to logical order, yours likely shipped June or July of 1960.

murphydog, you are absolutely right! I took the magna grips off the 67 almost immediately after I got it. When I compared them to a pair of grips that were on my 10-8, they were larger! ( the 10-8 grips are stamped w/K in them) Although not diamond magnas, they look good. I also have a pair of diamond targets that my dad bought in the 60's sometime. They are marked KT-38 on them. They look good on it too. Thanks for solving that mystery! Bob

My 6"#204345 shipped Feb.1961 .. If that helps...

The postwar (WW II) N frames had the S prefix until 1970, replaced by the N. So it means it is an earlier production gun.
