The SRU-16/P is a minimal survival Kit located inside the parachute pack.
It contains a number of useful items, explained in the article below.
The item I like the best is the knife.
It’s always a three blade Stock Knife
This one is a Kutmaster.
A word about survival kits.
You usually routinely never see the items in survival kits.
The small SRU-16/P comes factory packed and sealed and would be put in the parachute by the parachute packer.
In the larger kits, the Life Support Shop would pack the kits.
They would put on a show and tell during routine refresher training, then you see every item.
Since Surival Kit Knives are never used, as long as they are in the kits,
Many can be found in new condition.
I have a WWII Survival Kit Case Bolo that still has Cosmoline.
