The fuss...
It's not that she is the greatest singer of all time, although she does have a great potential to succeed now, nor that she is something especially extraordinary. Rather, it is because of those points that most recognize this as an extraordinary moment. She is just an average person who has endured much in life, just as any other average person, has suffered much hardship and lonliness, yet had an unrealized talent that she was given an opportunity to display, did so with bravura and courage, and won the world's hearts for it. It was a moment made up of her song choice, her determined performance, the collective audience astonishment, and her simple and humble beginning and end to her performance that made it one of those all to rare "perfect" moments in life. Many wish to cheer her on, to celebrate with her her perfect moment that she gave to us, that gave them an opportunity to believe that such moments can exist. For a while in a world beset with strife, inhumanity and injustice, Susan Boyle gave many people a renewed belief that perhaps Santa Claus really exists, the worthy will be recognized, their efforts to do the best they can are not necessarily in vain, and good may just triumph over evil after all, in reality rather than artificial and scripted. Everyone wants to see their dream come true, and if it can happen for her maybe it can happen for them.
