My curiosity finally got the best of me. These unusual friction folders always seem to pop up when I am looking for Mora and Marttiini knives, so finally I ordered a couple. Made in New Zealand with a Swedish carbon steel blade. They are cheaply made, and not expensive except in comparison to a Mora or an Opinel. I ordered a couple, the peasant knife and the smaller Mini Peasant.

They are roughly the same size as a Griptilian and Mini-grip, but there the similarity ends.

The full-sized one came with a very good blade. The Mini needed quite a bit of work to even out the bevel and get it decently sharp. The wooden handles also took quite a bit of sanding.

The handles are held together with screws, which allow for adjustment of the tension on the blade, to hold it closed, or on the tang, to hold it open.

I kind of like the low tech aspect of this knife, although it isn't in anywhere the same league as a Mora or Opinel. But at $10-12 a copy instead of $28, it might come close.

Has anybody tried one of these; if so, what do you think?

No experience with those but they look practical.

They'd make a darn nice spare to carry in a hunting kit or glove box.
