i dont know much about the differences between 1911 brands and models, but i might be able to come across a smith and wesson 1911 police model?

Product: Model SW1911PD

that link is the one it that it is, but do they accept the aftermarket parts like the springfields and such? or is it that all 1911's are all pretty much the same? im looking to get somthing i can toy around with

any help would be appreciated

I've read somewhere that PD stand for "personal defense".
Sights are S&W specific since SW1911 dovetails are "propriety" and not standard. I've found non S&W/OEM magazines fit as well as S&A mag guides. SW1911s also have their own [external] extractors. I haven't found the need to replace any parts.

I put an Ed Brown Ambi tactical safety in mine. Had to fit it and refit grip safety, but all the holes lined up.

Just get the S&W 1911 and it will not need any other parts. They work fine as they come from the factory.

I can't argue with Oldman45's post, but if you're into customizing and trying different parts, I gotta say i LOVE my SW1911, it is my most trusted semi-auto and my regular carry. The extractor has already been mentioned above, and it has an internal firing pin safety that I rather like. besides those and the sights all of the major parts are interchangeable with other 1911s. I ordered a custom bushing and plug from EGW, i use the original bushing from S&W though, I figure it'd be the more accurate of the two, but I also bought a compensator-bushing, that fits like a charm. Also I added an extended slide-stop that works just great. There is so much room for customizing with 1911s, pretty sure you'll find that if it fits a colt, kimber, springfield, remington or ruger 1911, it'll fit the smith. Also i should mention that I use the kimber .22lr conversion kit with my sw1911 every time I hit the range and it works just great :)

I second that! I am on my 5th SW1911 and really love them. I started with the basic stainless model when they first came out now I just bought PC1911 and Pro Series 9mm 1911. I would put them up there with any other brand in the price range.

I'm actually getting the pistol on a trade, I just want somthing I can tinker around with, already have a carry gun, the gun is I. Good shape, I'm pretty excited, I just went off the msrp, and it appears to be a little higher quality than the usuall,

The PD has a scandium alloy frame. I don't know how well that material takes to alterations but since the PD comes with all of the usual bells and whistles I can't imagine anything you'd need to change other than grips and maybe sights.

i have a 1911pd. it was always hard to rack the slide so i put new sear spring and lighter hammer spring. it works real nice now.
