Earlier this week I posted regarding a 4506 I recently obtained that along the path of previous ownership had been slicked and shined, likely in the name of revitalizing.
My original intent was to locate an Atlanta area gunsmith who could perhaps undo the harm caused by copious amounts of Mother's Mag and someone with far too much time on their hands. Although I do own one Nickel gun (M38), I prefer blue, black or matte finished guns.
The very night of my post, fellow member BLUEBELLYYANKEE sent me a private message offering to try and resuscitate my new find if the current condition would allow.
I sent him some pictures and he agreed to give it a go.We met at his home the following day - BLUEBELLYYANKEE completely disassembled the entire gun, de-greased all components and glass bead blasted the frame and slide to perfection, then oiled and reassembled the 4506;all in the space of about 2 hours.
I now have in my possession what has become perhaps my favorite gun - behold............before and after. A beautiful specimen of the classic S&W 4506 no dash.
My public thanks and accolades for a job well done and for teaching an old dog new tricks.
Thanks, BLUEBELLYYANKEE!
Edit to add - grips to be replaced as soon as possible.
