SW 629 Classic vs 629 Deluxe

Is there any difference between the current 629 Classic 6.5" barrel and the 629 Deluxe 6.5" barrel other than the Deluxe has wood grips? Also a tiny difference in weight Classic 49.3 ounces versus Deluxe 50.7 ounces (probably the wood grips). Gonna put Culina grips on which ever one I purchase.

Three years ago, I bought a new 3" 629 Deluxe and it had a much nicer polish and finish than the standard 629. Today, who knows?

I cannot comment on the 629, but the 29-5 CDX was guaranteed to shoot 2" at 50 yards and was supplied with a test target, 5 interchangeable front sights, flat wood Morado combats and a Hogue one piece rubber grip.

Actually, I believe that both the classic and classic dx have the front sight interchangeable but the dx model came with the different sights.

Classic and Classic Dx both had the IFS system, As stated the Dx version used to come with the wood fg stocks and an assortment of front sites.
Rumour was that they were the same guns but the ones that shot better got the DX marking and package IIRC.

I have two 629 deluxes both have wood grips Talo editions, target triggers 3 in.and 6.5. They are one for EDC the other for hiking or hunting, home defense.

The only difference is the grips (which you can get from usagunsandgear .com or Midwest Gun Works) and possibly a slightly better final polish. I have a 629-5 6.5" Classic and put the S&W wood grips on and may hit it lightly with a little Flitz. Voila...a 629 Deluxe.

I never knew of any 629s being factory polished until seeing this "Magna Classic" for sale not long ago. That price, wow.
