I have a chance to get a Model 17 .22 three screw that is supposedly 1968 vintage. What's it worth in very good condition? Have not seen it yet, but im sure it's nice. I am not really a collector. Just want to get some idea of its worth before I start to haggel the price. Oh, I'm in California. That would make it worth more.

I just bought a mint one today in FL for a little south of 600 at a flea market - you need a magnifying glass to discern the turn ring and the checkering is still perfectly sharp. If you look on GunsInternational, you'll see them from 600 on up with an average running ab out 800 for guns in excellent condition

California is a different story in that they only accept transfers of pistols on the approved list so if it's a tough one to find then there is always a premium. I don't live there so I can't guess what the premium is but it can be large on a hard to find gun.
If it's in excellent shape and depending on the model which should still be P&R and barrel length it could be worth $700 easy if it's a 6 inch barrel and slightly less if it's an 8 3/8 inch barrel.
That being said I have a 17-4 that is both P&R and mint with an 8 3/8 barrel and I wouldn't sell it for less then $700 where I live because it's the most accurate 22LR handgun I have and it thinks it's a rifle.
