It's gotta be a round butt 2 and-a-half inch barrel. From what I've read on the forum, being in California and being an actual defense gun, its got to be worth a king's ransom!

Do you guys still use dollars, or euros? (or yen?) You may be able to trade it for a second hand Bentley!

sorry, I couldn't help myself...but seriously, there's lots of guys on the forum with familiarity on California prices...can you even sell it there, or does it have to go out of state? (I'm being serious now)...out of state, I suspect $550 to $650 depending on your market...they are a classic and about the greatest carry gun ever made w/ 6 shots...make sure you know about the pinned barrel & recessed cylinders, S&W stopped those extra features in 1982 or so as a cost cutting measure (they were found to be unecessary but sure add quality to the gun...yours has them, it was made around 1980)

There a plenty sought after in CA. I've seen them sell for more than $650 in CA. I'd be a buyer for $550-$650 though. Good Luck and let me know if your deal falls thru, been wanting one of these.

Thank you everyone. I will tomorrow offer 550.00 or less for the 595.00 they are asking hope they come down some. If not I will buy it anyway. I love smith's that's all I carried during my 26yr. career. in which I trusted my life to them. They never let me down.

Saw a 19-6 6 inch in a pawn shop and that wanted $695. Any model 19 will be priced at $600 or more in California. Private party transfers and consignments are legal in California.

I've always assumed that's perfectly normal, although I have noticed it to be more pronounced on some...but they always seemed to function fine.

However, I'm no gunsmith, so some of the other guys may have more to add.

One other question. just in front of the ejector shroud. a pin is ever so slightly peeking out. Is this normal or does it need to go back in. When the ejector rod goes back into the shroud it pushes on this pin, sort of pusing it out the front of the shroud.

Perfectly normal, S&W revolvers employ a two point system for locking the cylinder in the closed position, if you'll look at the end of the ejector rod you'll see the recess that the spring loaded pin installed in the barrel shroud fits into. In the case of unshrouded barrels there will be a lug attached to the underside of the barrel for the pin.
