Why is there such a big shortage of SW revolvers and SS autos?
At least here in Newnan, Ga

Here to--- I go every day to two LGS and its the same gun every day. If i want a gun that i like,i have to order it and it takes months....Just like the two new 9 mm S&W rev. - I don't see any around. You would think S&W would have them all made and shipped out.

That's why I jumped on my 1911 E Series, I never saw a SW 1911 before and the E series is nice so ....Kaaa Ching!

Maybe demand in general is so high that production can't keep up. With concealed carry almost here in Illinois I wanted to buy a j-frame 2-in that is lighter than my 23 oz. Model 640, but could find NONE in any of the stores in my city. Even when I inquired about ordering something, I was told that an order could be placed but it could be months or more before I should expect anything.

Not that many years ago I wanted a 640, and it took only two weeks to come in. I wanted a 617 and that took less than two weeks. But things seem much different now.

You think there is a backorder now, you should have been around during the 1970 thru 1980's. Special orders took anywhere from 6 months to "never in your lifetime" Model 29 (are you kidding me!!) Same with M52 and M41. Tough times indeed.

What are you looking for?
Call Barrow Automotive in Butler, GA
I don't know about other frame sizes, but they had 20-25 j-frames out on display last time I was there. If they don't have it, you probably ain't going to find it in Georgia. It is probably 85 miles from Newnan. Worth the trip just to look.

I've heard of that place. I may end up there some day, maybe on the Harley. But not anytime soon. I got my E 1911 for now and I'm good to go, until the itch....

I don't want to highjack the thread but if S&W employees are working 12 hour shifts and the machinery is running 24/7.

Then we should be patient and let them do their very best to keep up with the demand that is being placed on the shoulders of those employees.

Well said. We all want a quality product, don't we? If they are rushing production, we'll get less than a quality firearm, and we will never hear the end of it when someone complains on this and other forums.
