So the significant other came along to a local steel challenge match. Now she has visions of taking out the likes of Golob and Miculek with her skills.
My question is, in the opinion of y'all is the sw22 worth investing in as a good economical starter for steel challenge? Should I be looking more toward a buckmark or the likes? I don't want to spend thousands but I want something that can grow with her, at least for a year or two.

She has a couple of years of experience shooting, and is quite proficient with her collection.

the Victory is a good gun to start with and there are now a lot of manufacturers making enhancements to it. I shot one at a SC match and was very happy with the way it worked.

I have one...

which I bought right after they were introduced at the SHOT show in Jan.2016. There have been numerous reports of poor assembly work which S&W will correct free of charge(my extractor fell out on the first shot). The factory barrels are finicky about ammo, i.e. some Victorys run Federal Auto Match but others won't. I finally bought a Volquartsen carbon fiber light weight barrel which I'm happy with.

The trigger is about 4# let off with lots of take-up and I can't run this gun on Steel Challenge courses nearly as quick as my Ruger Mark III with all Volquartsen parts(2# trigger). Lots of these guns are being sold so I'm sure trigger jobs will be created.

Will your wife be happy with the stock trigger? That's the key question.

Good shooting to you both.
