I have a S&W 40 cal and was wondering if it was worth converting it to a 9mm. Is this even possible. I have read some mixed views on the SD40VE and haven't seem anything on the SW40VE.

Absolutly it is possible
However, I doubt that any of the barrel manufacturers are currently making a conversion barrel for the SIGMA. It has been out of the lineup for too long
You would need to call them and ask them to make you one. If they are willing to do that, you might consider having a 357SIG barrel made at the same time.
I actually own two 40s, but one has never been shoot it and the other only test fired. I am very fond of the 357SIGma

Well, not so fast.
When they made barrels for it, you could convert a SW40VE to a .357 Sig just by changing barrels.
Having owned both at the same time I verified that I could NOT put the 9mm components into the .40 frame and vice versa without problems, because the magazines and mag wells are different widths. A .40 Sigma magazine will NOT go into a 9mm frame.
A 9mm magazine is a very loose fit in a .40 frame, and the best that can be said is it sorta works.......not reliably.
If you want to have interchangability, move up to the M&Ps, where the 9mm and .40 magazine DO interchange between frames.

Ok, You answered my question, Not going to fight with it. I know it takes a conversion barrel not a barrel exchange. Therefor you cannot swap barrels from one to the other. The barrel has to be made for the 40 but chambered for the 9mm. I will leave it alone and not open a can of worms. Thanks Guys.

SD40VE mags WILL work in the SW40VE. (the floorplates are slightly different shaped, but work OK)
M&P Mags DON"T INTERCHANGE with Sigma's and SD's!!!!!!!!!!
