I bought a SW40VE a few years ago and love shooting it. I did have to get used to the stiff trigger but once that was worked out I have not had any real issues with it. I'm just curious to know if others are still using this particular model and what their take is.

I have a 40F, a 40V, a SD40 and SD9. The 40F is dead accurate with my own cast boolits and loads. The 40F and 40V are strategically stashed around the house. The SD40 is my car gun and the SD9 is my truck gun. I have had the 40F since I think the first year they came out, maybe 1996-97 or so, can't remember exactly?? I have night sights on it and a guide rod laser.

I have the SW40VE. I decided I don't really like the .40 cal. This rides in my car as a backup. I bought it new back when the SW's first came out. I think it was on sale for $199 and Smith had a $50 rebate. No issues at all except, as you said, the stiff trigger. I think Smith fixed that with the SD models. Not really worth parting with it so that's why it rides in a lock box under the seat.

I'm still working on building up a nice collection. One for each vehicle and 10 for the house. Just having a little issue getting the wife on board with the whole spending thing. My Grab and go is my SW40VE but have a few others stashed around the home.

I carried an SW40VE from 2019 to 2023 as my primary carry gun in cold weather.
It has served me well, but I've since retired it from that role after having gotten an M&P40c.
Nevertheless, I still love my trusty SW40VE, which is why it now serves a more distinguished role as a quick access home defense pistol which remains in my bedroom beside my armchair so that if any trouble should arise, I can quickly deploy it.

Have a 9VE and love it. I have over 4000 rounds through it with only 2 FTFs. Both had dented primers, and failed to fire the second time also. WW White box bulk. Not the guns fault, and the trigger while not ideal has lightened and smoothed some..
I also bought one new (S&W40VE) when they first were available with a laser light. It never fails to run smoothly when I cycle the rounds through it every once in a while. It's a bedside gun now mostly with the M&P40 my truck gun. I'll always hang onto it because it just feels good in the hand.

I've had my 40E since 1999/ 2000 and carried it for years.
I inherited one , and I seem to shoot low, and left. It's a fun gun to shoot, but I can't imagine I would pull as far left and low as I do with it. I suppose the hard trigger pull has something to do with it, and I haven't shot it very much yet. It's in fantastic condition, and nice balance .

There is a small pig tail spring in the bottom of the sear housing block assembly that's only real purpose it to double the trigger pull. It will work just fine without the spring, but of course would be a liability if removed.

I bought a SW9ve and a SW40ve.I compared them and saw that I could make them both shoot 9mm and 40cal. I bought another 9mmSWve upper and another 40calSWve upper off GB. I dremeled out the ridges inside of the 9mm grip to make it wide enough to take the 40cal mag. I took my 9mm mags and added a strip of sports tape on both sides. I can now shoot 9mm or 40 cal in my 2 SWve's whichever I feel like shooting that day.
To the OP.. Dont feel bad I still carry my Sigmas on a regular basis and continue to shoot them at the range regularly. Other than smoothing out the factory triggers I have never done much to them as I felt S&W had them basically dialed in from the get go other than a few manufacturing issues very early on.
In a practical sense theres nothing I cant do with a Sigma that I can do with a more modern fad plastic autoloader and most of the new stuff has gotten so ugly that the clean lines and minimalist Sigma still appeals to me. Theres not a whole lot to complain about especially when it came to the more rounded gen 3 sigmas vs the squarish more glocky/blocky slides on the 1st and second gen pistols.
I guess if I could change one thing about the Sigmas it would be to make them a true DAO striker along with double strike capability. S&W should have designed the trigger system up to mimic the DAO revolver instead of the fake DAO single action Glock system. Especially the pocket version for the SW380 and the SW9M.
Actually the SW380 should have been chambered in 32acp and the SW9M really needed to be a 380acp. Neither one of those pistols hold up to much largely in part to single pin barrel attachment design to the frame which was a real mess. Shame on you S&W. Other than that both those pistols had solid potential as no frills pocket pistols whether they had a Zamak Slide (SW380) or Cast Slide (SW9M) or not.
These days though there are so many options out there for plastic fantastic the market is completely saturated. Even Comped and Ported pistols for self defense are back in vogue again and the was a mid to late 90s "Thing".
My main Sigma carry pistol is a SW40VE and I dont see any reason for change with what is out there these days but I dont carry pistols with red dot optics. Its to bad S&W morphed the classic Sigma lines into the SD line which were obviously an attempt to make cheap M&P looking pistols. We never got actual subcompact or longslide Sigmas along will new chamberings such as 45acp and 10MM. Smith and Wesson kind of dropped the ball IMO after the Gen 3 Sigmas.
