SW99 40cal ??'s

Im not sure if this is the right forum or not forgive me if its wrong anyways I just got this SW99 in 40 and it seems to be a factory refurb from what I can tell it came with 3 12 round mags but no extra backstraps it is the QA model it has night sights and from looking at pics of other SW99's mine has a different slide mine has more of a Walther slide no front cocking serations and very fine rear ones all serial numbers on my gun match . any info is greatly appreciated .

Yeah, that is different. I have it in 40 also, but mine is a compact model. I like the look of yours though. Plus the Stamping on the slide looks different, colored in white?

no my slide isn't colored my slide has made in germany on it on the other side its all laser etched kinda a gold color like older walther p99's I just got and can wait to shoot it I love the QA trigger on it fronm what I've dry fired it so far .

I just looked on my frame and it also has a AC code on it from what I could find on the p99 FAQ my SW99 frame was made in 2002

I wonder if since S&W doesn't make the SW99 anymore and the Walther P99 is still made they used a P99 slide marked Smith & Wesson. Anyway you have a nice looking SW99 there. They are nice pistols and very accurate.

that may be the case I posted on the Waltherforums as well and was told since my gun was an 2002 model it may be an early one with a slide from walther as well .

I was able to find out a little info on my gun on Waltherforums from a member jonm there

I did a little research to satisfy my curiousity. What I found is that the SW99QA was replaced by the SW990L. Basically, they took the decocker off; otherwise it's the same gun. This was done fairly early in the SW99s life and it seems that they didn't make a ton of QAs and my best guess is that they had Walther build all of them 100%, because S&W never intended them to be part of the full lineup.

The two rumors that I ran across are that S&W built (or rather, had Walther build) the SW99QAs for the Orange County, CA, Sheriff's Office and the OCSO then didn't take them. The other is that S&W changed the QA to the 990L because they were afraid that a "poorly trained" police officer somewhere might accidentally decock his QA in the holster, rendering it unable to fire when he needed it.

Don't know if there's any truth to either of the rumors, but it does seem that the QAs are all like the OP's, being 100% Walther, and that there weren't a lot of them built compared to the other models.
