SW99c

I found a nice SW99c the other day. It came with 2 10rd mags, but nothing else. I got it for $279 so I don't think I did too bad. I rarely ever see any for sale here, except at some gun shows, and they are closer to $500.
I tried to go to the range yesterday with it but we had some misty rain and it was closed(wimps).
I'm sure I'll be looking for some full sized mags and the grip adapter soon.
I don't see anything on the frame like Walther would use as a date code. The serial number is SAE211x. Any idea when this was made?

I consider the SW99 the other orphan. I own 4 SW99's and 1 Walther P99. I have 2 SW99c's 1 in 9mm and 1 in 40sw. I have a full size 9mm and a 45acp. The P99 is a 40sw and has a Barstow 357sig barrel. I have a 40 Cal S&W slide on the P99 because I prefer the contour of the S&W slide better. My 3rd Generations have all went to the safe. The SW99's are smaller, lighter, and generally higher capicaty. They are DA/SA with second strike capability. Being striker fired the trigger far exceeds the 3rd Gens. Now that I have the complete set, if you run into one and like 3rd Gens check them out and consider one.

Good for you! That's a really good price. I have a P99c and it's my favorite small pistol. If you can't find the grip extension, you can call Walther USA and they will sell you one for about $15. Definitly worth the money, as the bigger grip area (combined with the full size mag) makes the gun much easier and more comfortable to shoot. Have fun!

I have a SW999C, myself (the actual model number for the compact 9mm version with the Anti-Stress "DA/SA-ish" sear housing). I ordered it directly from the factory as an armorer after one of my 99 armorer recerts in the early/mid 2000's (?).

I was told at the time that mine was pulled from one of the last production runs they had planned, as they were introducing the 990L's at the time, which was the S&W licensed version of the Walther 99 QA, but without the field-stripping/decocking button. I didn't care for the Quick-Action trigger and wanted the AS version, so I managed to order one of the last remaining 999C's instead of a 990L9C.

Great little 9mm compact. Barely larger than the G26 (which I also own and like), although the grip profile of the little 99 feels a lot thinner and "smaller", overall. I don't use the longer magazines for the standard SW999, even though I could've bought them as a peace officer back when I bought the gun (I live in CA). I just use the standard 10rd mags, as I only wanted it for its small size as an off-duty weapon and wanted it to be as compact as possible.

Last month I acquired a sw990L compact 9mm,(I don't mind the QA trigger). I was shocked at the accuracy and the ergonomics of the pistol. I've been carrying an M&P PC Shield in 40 s&w for a couple of years but it never felt right in my hands, but it concealed well. The 990L fits in the holsters I have for the Shield so it's my new carry gun. I liked it so much I just bought a sw99c in 40 s&w and I'm going to sell the Shield ! The 990L I picked up for $260 and the 99c for $250. Can't beat that IMHO.

The P99 family are some really nice pistols. I have a P99c, a Magnum
Research MR9 (P99 clone with frame made by Walther and upper made by Magnum Research), and a PPQ, which is really just an SAO P99. They have great triggers, great ergos, and are tack drivers. My PPQ sits in my nightstand full of Critical Defense just in case.

I'm not a fan of striker fired guns. That's being said, I was sorely tempted by a Walther 99c that a local shop was selling on consignment. It was barely fired and in the box with all the usual trappings for $400. I even liked the paddle-style magazine release. Then I read that Walther discontinued that particular feature for a more common button release. That was a deciding factor in dropping the gun from consideration.

One of the features I really liked on the early Walther P99 series guns was the paddle style magazine catch. I preferred the original, shorter version to the subsequent longer one, though.

Interesting trivia fact ....

In the licensed S&W versions of the 99 series, the S&W engineers eventually decided to use the optional (heavier) Walther extractor spring ... which is the same spring used in the paddle mag catch assembly. (They also eventually decided to tell armorers to install the extractor spring in a reverse orientation in the spring hole under the extractor, meaning to install it loose-end first, instead of the original tight-end first. We were told the reason was because some armorers didn't get the tight-end fully seated down in the hole, or didn't seat the spring straight, but when it was installed loose-end first, it was self correcting and worked fine.)

Panther - my SW99c is SAE3xxx and was made in Nov. 2003 so probably not much earlier.
