I belong to several firearms forums and have noticed that there are not really that many SW9VE (SW9-series) owners.

I have one and like it really well. Simple, acceptable accuricy and rather inexpensive.
Mine fits my hand really well, shots good and extreamly easy to strip. Is (or was) there something better in the same price class?

Have a nice weekend, all

Craig

ps. Had I have known 9mm ammo would become so hard to come by I would have bought a 40. Every store here has tons of 40 and little or no 9mm anything.

I don't think that the SW9VE is unpopular, they sell tons of them every gunshow. I think that there are a lot of guns to talk about and the SW9VE is an inexpensive gun that is easy to find so buying one may be a little less of an "event" than acquiring a pre-lock 357 revolver, but a lot of people here own them, and like them. Use the find feature for these guns and you will find lots of info. I believe S&W sold thousands of them to the Afghan Army.

I'd guess (no evidence) the 9VE is probably the highest in sales in America. The gun stores in CT. move them out like candy, especially when S&W had the two mags or $50 rebate. I bought a 9VE new and recently sold it, but it was/is a great pistol for $299 with 4 mags. I own a used 9F and a used 40VE. The VE series will never win you a shooting match, but you can't argue the bang for the buck. I think the "snob" factor comes into play from not only the Glock squad, but the M&P crew as well. Yeah, I'd rather have purchased a new M&P, but all I could afford was the VE. I've owned many pistols and I consider the Sigma series to have been the best bargain.

I've got one. A 40V too. I've posted decent scores in local competitions after taking some 'heat' for bringing a Sigma. I've certainly outshot some shooters with much 'better' guns.

I do like my 40V better than the 9VE and I attribute that directly to the trigger pull. IMO the trigger pull on the 9VE is not good enough. Out of the box it was over 11 lbs and very gritty. Both are issues I've solved, but neither make it a poor choice for the price.

I previously reported in Another Sigma Thread that I returned my 40GVE to S&W with a trigger recovery problem. They fixed that and did some trigger work and the trigger is 200%
better than it was. It is now the smoothest DA that I have.

+1 with Houston Rick. I see Sigmas flying out of every gun show I attend. S&W was back filling rebate offers months in arrears due to the volumne of Sigmas sold. I'd not be surprised if these were the highest volumne hi caps in the US.

Out West

Where I shop 9mm is much less expensive than 40. That may be why you're finding it difficult to find. Many people choose a 9mm gun because it's cheap to shoot. Right now there is a run on ammo that should die down when political fears subside.

I sent mine back with the same result, the trigger is very good now. MilTec grease around the sear smoothed it out even more. It'll never be a 1911 but it is a reliable, accurate self defense pistol at a bargain basement price. Born in the USA too!

I love my SW9VE. It's my everyday carry gun and being it's not the most handsome gun in my safe, I don't mind throwing it under my car seat and leaving it there for a few days. I imagine S&W keeps them around because they are so popular. Not a big hit when they first hit the scene in 94'.

When I had mine a couple of years ago it had extraction problems,it went back to S&W but was never the same,at least I didn't think it was.
I bought a used 915 last summer and it's been a joy to shoot,never had a hiccup.

The Sigma is a hugely popular pistol. It's inexpensive and S&W sells a ton of them which, I think, makes it a target for scoffers.

I think that it's a great defense weapon. The double action makes it safe, its "ugliness" makes it imposing and, at least for me, it's very reliable. Along with the fact that it didn't cost a ton of money, I don't feel bothered when I see scuff marks on it

I haven't had the trigger modified on mine - I just know that I have to pull harder. As it happens, the draw is pretty smooth, so I don't pull any shots. One piece of advice, though, is to be sparing with oil when lubricating the slide. Just a drop or you'll have a big mess.

I had one and my wife had one for four years. We shot them often and never had a failure of any kind. Great gun but just didn't like the trigger and the fact the rail was a bit strange. They were both traded on M&P's.

It's ironic that the Sigma hasn't had more popularity considering it's so similar to the Glock.
