I think Jimmy was also asking what the real LA SWAT team uses. Might not be the same as the actors.

That database has occasional errors, but is still usually correct, and a great resource. My main problem is that it doesn't list some shows or TV series that I liked. Probably impossible! I can normally ID the guns onscreen. But there are so many hyped-out 1911 spin-offs that even I would need the database to know which some are.

They've been using Kimber Custom TLE II's in .45 ACP since 2002 . . .

And then there was these guys.. It was a tough pistol to handle due to the slick slide, the few officers that did carry it ended up inlaying non skid tape in the rear slide SIS logo.

We sent men to the moon on low bid, and after 34 years in gov’t service, I can assure you that firearms purchase receives the same consideration . . .

I would assume the best the taxpayers can buy them, until SWAT changes their minds, and then the taxpayers can buy all over again.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall reading that LAPD SIS ended up dropping their Kimber 1911s in favor of .45ACP Glocks, but I can't remember which specific model(s).

I think it is the 30S, which was the result of combing some off the shelf parts to come up with a different combination. Read a review of it some time back in American Handgunner, and can't be sure my memory is right. SIS is entirely about hunting the worst of the worst, and they have a lot of gear that is not otherwise common in LAPD. If I recall right, they are another of the speciality platoons in Metro, as is SWAT (Metro D).

If you do some web searching for articles by Scott Rietz, you will find one that describes the selection process for SWAT. It's a week of some very high standards testing of people who already have a well established track record. There might also be some info of similar nature about SIS. They are selecting the very best from an already small group of the very best. I felt weak and tired just from reading the description.

I recall that when SWAT started moving to the 1911s, they used confiscated pistols that were able to be heavily customized.
