Unless you absolutely need the latest generation of technology, you can get a 55" TV for about $300.00.
Keep in mind that like so many other things, not matter what the label says, there are only a few companies that actually manufacture TVs.
OLED 4K TVs are the high ticket items, but I'd bet that the $3-400 dollar ranges are most of the market. TCL TVs are pretty good and not expensive. Hisense are okay TVs as well.
When we moved to TX, we only brought one TV the others were wall mounted and stayed with the old house. It just didn't make sense to move them as most TVs don't travel well, so we bought new ones down here.
No one repairs them any more because there is no money in it and it's less expensive to buy a replacement.

Wholly Mackerel. The TV companies have us by the short hairs because they make us "think" we need a new TV. (more money for them)
Recommended, schmeckomended. I have a normal size living room with a custom made Entertainment Center. My flat screen that fits in the TV center is a 19". Anyone inn the room can see it perfect.
My bedroom has a 32" and laying in bed it's MORE than adequate.
8 feet and recommended 55 incher......wholly mackerel. My vision with glasses is 20:20 and that would fry my brains.
