Well, In the midst of the dead of winter, I went out and zero'd in the spank'n new M&P 10.

And, while most are saying that this boom stick likes the 168 grain, I found that at 100 yrds, the 147 was grouping at 1" or less.

I had run a box of Hornady 168 $40.00 rounds through it, but I did not see a huge difference at that range between the two.

BTW- this is out of the box, no floating rail, but the factory forearm resting on my backpack.

The firearm was nice to shoot, and best of all, it is now zero'd in until I put a superb piece of glass on it.

Right now it is a Nikon, but I am looking to put a stronger scope with a lit reticle on it.

Also, it ran smooth as butter, no matter what I put it today.

I'm glad you like it. At 100 yards, the bullet grain usually doesn't make a difference. Bullets like the 168 and 175 HPBT Match usually make a difference when you want to "reach out and touch someone". Of course, there is the caveat that each rifle has it's own "personal" preference on brand and grain. So far I haven't found out what those might be for mine yet.

Yup.

I have been reading what you all are saying and that is why I took the Hornady 168 HPBT out with me, but as you said, it did not seem to make a difference.

My plan is to have lighter ammo in 25 round mags, and the HPBT 168gr in 20 rnd mags for the price shots.

A cross-over solution if you will.

I was a pleasure to shoot.

Mine likes the Hornady Match 168 grain bthp and it loves the Nosler Trophy Grade 165 grain ballistic tips.

It shoots just under 1" with the Hornady and around 1/2" groups with the Nosler ammo.

I will be looking for the Nosler then to give them a whirl.

Try the Match King too. They run a little cheaper but some sights recommend them and Black Hills as being one of the better choices. I think Match King is by Federal.

At this price a guy might as well be shooting 50BMG.:D

Be prepared... they are $40 a box. :D

And if you deer hunt, avoid shoulder shots. Those Nosler BT's do a serious number on them.

Yours might like the Remington CoreLokt or Hornady Whitetail 150 gr rounds if it liked the 147's. Mine sure does, and those are 18-21$/box, soft point.

A few years back "GI Brass" was selling surplus, pulled M80 147 gr. bullets and surplus 4895. I loaded up on those for the M1A.

The M&P10 came along just in the nick of time as I had to give up trying to shoot irons. So far it likes my M80 equivalent handloads pretty well. I expect to use those for fooling around out to 200 yards and handloaded SMKs for more accuracy.

I really like the big 10, and don't plan to mod anything without a very good reason. I did take the RH safety lever off, though. Darned thing was beating up the joint of my forefinger on recoil. Besides, it looked weird.
