Just picked up a new in box factory black 686-3 (BBV93XX, made in about 1988) to the range today after my buddy cleaned up the action for me and I mounted a new set of Nill Classic grips. The look is everything I wanted and the gun now has an excellent pull in both SA and DA. No end float, solid lockup and superb fit and finish all over.

Here are some groups I fired today indoors at 25 yards from the bench. My forearms and wrists were supported but not the gun. I zero'd the gun for Winchester 145 grain Silvertip and it shot that ammo into about 1.5". Of course, that load has shot superbly in every 357 I've ever owned. The rest of the test was done with a variety of 38 Special loads, all of which are identified on the target. Notice how all the 38 ammo shot significantly higher on the target than the center (X ring) where I zero'd the Silvertip just minutes before.

Look closely at the target immediately below. Notice how almost all the shots have keyholed. I have not had any luck getting this ammo to shoot well in any gun, not even my 6" Python. So much for "premium" ammo.

This target was shot at 50' standing with two hands, double action rapid fire.
