SWHF Lettrs received on two Reg. Mags.

Group, I recently received my SWHF package on two RMs, both shipped in the first week of production in 1935, and they included copies of the original order with specs. of the sight hold and range yardage, correspondence with the buyer, etc., which matched the info in the original Jinks historical letter. Both guns were shipped to hardware stores and one gun 's info. had the name of the person who ordered the gun, which I did not know, so I can now do more research on that RM. The other RM had been returned to the factory in 1967 for a rebuild, and a new cylinder, hammer were fitted and the barrel was shortened from the original 8 3/4 in. to 7 1/2 in. Unfortunately the work order & invoice for that event was not included in the SWHF research, as only the 1930s era has been digitized and available to the SWHF. Those invoices are filed chronolocically under the name of the person who returned the gun to S&W in boxes in the S&W archives at the CVHM, so until all the records are digitized, a SWHF package won't include info. not in the curently digitized material. Ed, thanks for your posting. It explains why a non-reg magnum that letters going to the FBI in Feb, 1940, 61114, has no information available so I could not get the SWHF package. I'll just have to wait until all the invoices are digitized to get this information. I was wondering why the records on this revolver were not available even though it lettered cleanly, and now I know thanks to you.

Chuck...the records that have been digitized and indexed cover the period, 1935-1941, and should include the invoice for your .357 Magnum. The only explanation I can offer as to why I could not find it in the digitized records is the revolver is either indexed incorrectly or not indexed. I will ask Roy about your .357 and a couple of other guns when I see him in Tucson.

I have lettered my RM #36 8-3/4" barreled gun and did not get any of copies of the order forms, is it possible to get this information now? If so how do I get it to go along with my factory letter I already recieved 2 years ago, thanks for any help, regards Dale Z in Canada!
