SWS Brass Deflector is now available

I just checked ... Both boxes from the same lot, part of a 10-box case purchased last October.

I am planning on doing the same thing. Too bad it will be the middle of next week before I can get back to the range.

Let me know how it works out for you. I will try and make a trip to the range this weekend and do the same thing.

Thanks for checking, but it is a bit perplexing.

I am new to the 15-22 world, why do you need this deflector? Why would you add something that is not needed, my brass flies out of the way just fine out of the box. Maybe just another bolt on to make it look cool, but has no real purpose. Sounds like another make money gimmick to me. Just like barrel shrouds, no real purpose, just asthethtics.

The lanes at the indoor range I go to are kind of close, and sometimes the brass flies over the divider and into the next lane. I've had hot brass hit me almost every visit. The brass deflector prevents that from happening.

(It also makes cleaning up a little easier as the brass gathers to a smaller area!)

One, it keeps hot brass from hitting the arm of a left-handed shooter. Two, I prefer to have my brass drop in a pile on the bench or at my feet, rather than sprayed all over the place, especially when i am required to police up my brass. Three, it keep brass from hitting the shooter in the port or shooting station on your right.

Just because you have no need for it, doesn't mean others don't. :)

Thanks for the support. If anyone that orders the Brass Deflector does not like it, or it does not fill the roll that they need it to. Let me know and I will give you a full refund.

I will try one. I just want to keep my brass off the cars parked nearby.

It deflects brass. Pretty simple.

If you think it's a gimmick, don't buy it.

Posting negative opinions about something you have no clue about is not necessary. Especially in this thread.

I experienced this issue recently and it went away after removing the deflector and remounting it. I suspect it shifted (twisted or bent) from being flexed in the case and from vehicle to storage etc.

Depending on where you shoot, you may not need it

When at the local indoor range, this isn't needed, but when we go out to Okeechobee Shooting center, outdoor ranges, ive burned 2 people who were standing far clear of the firing line.

So if you can use this, it's great! If not, don't knock it because you don't know why it was developed

Tried this morning. 8 shell casings bounced back into the chamber on the first 25 round magazine (CCI Tactical). Removed the deflector and fired over 100 rounds without a malfunction.

I will try to find my nylon washers to place between the mount and deflector, then try again in a day or two.

Thank you for the offer SimpleWeaponSolutions it is GREATLY Appreciated...!!!! But as of right now its not that big of a deal to me. I just drop the mag pull the handle and away we go...
But if it persist I may take you up on the swap out to the longer one and try it. Or give the washer thing a try.Besides it works and looks to kool to give back!!!!
NO REFUND HERE :)

Freeway, sorry you are still having problems with the deflector. If you would like a refund let me know. I listed some additional ideas below to try out if you want.

Click-Click-BOOM, glad to hear you still like it. If it becomes too frustrating let me know and I will do what I can to get you squared away.

I just got back from the range and ran 425 rounds with 3 different deflectors. I only had 2 stove pipes/bounce back into the chamber so I am not sure what is going on. One of the deflectors, I spaced out with a stack of washers and did have a stove pipe on that.

For those that are having problems, I have a couple of ideas to try out.

  • Move the brass deflector forward/rearward a notch or two and see what happens.
  • Tape up the inside of the deflector with some duck tape, the brass could be hitting the window just right and bouncing back in.
  • Space the shield out away from the mount with washers. I tried 5 washers with a 1/2 long 10-32 screw.

I also have a stack of non anodized shields that have severe cracks from the bending process, if anyone wants a few to play around with, PM me with a ship to address.

So far I have only been contacted by 6 people that are having problems with the brass deflector. Is anyone else having problems or having good results?

Are you guys trying to reclaim your brass to reload? My gun clears the brass way clear of me. What is the purpose of this gizmo? Inquireing minds want to know. You can't reload rimfire ammo. Am I just clueless?

I think the fact that the vertical portion is exactly parallel with The lower. Perhaps if the angle was wider. My feeling on this is based on the deflector made with a 45 degree rail section and a length of rail ladder. That puts the ladder at a 45 degree angle and over the course of several months I had no problems.

Did you bother to read the replies I and another person posted in answer to your first question??? We gave you the reasons a brass deflector is useful!

Posts numbers 165, 166 and 168, to save you reading through stuff that obviously is of no interest to you. :)

The 15-22 ejects the brass straight out to the right. If you are a left handed shooter, like me, the brass goes straight into your right arm. With the brass deflector most of the brass will drop straight down into a nice pile.

The brass deflector can also be useful to right handed shooters as it will keep the brass from bouncing off lane dividers and landing back onto you, or hitting shooters in the lanes next to you.

I see then it is a useful add on for left handed users, my son shoots lefty. He has even put his thumb over the ejection port of a couple of guns I own. Therefore causing issues. I regress my doubts, it does seem to have a use. Was only trying to figure out why I would want to add this to my rifle. This is .22lr, not .308 or some high caliber that has real weight or even some heat behind it. You can put 100 rounds down the barrel and it gets just barely warm, try that with a real caliber gun and see how hot it gets. Brass out of a .223-5.56 or a .308 is smoking hot comming out of the cahmber. I see that stuff needing deflected out of the way.

I have fairly good results with the brass deflector. Everything I have tried, including Federal bulk pack, Remmy Gold bullets, most CCI ammo have an occasional "classic" stove pipe stoppage. (Brass sideways in the ejection port. Occasional meaning maybe one or 2 every 50 rounds. Now, with Remmy target rounds, a nightmare. seemed like every 3rd shot. Took deflector off, ran fine. With stingers, not as bad, but very noticeable.

My setup with the deflector seems to prefer ammo in the 1100 - 1280 fps range for the most reliable function. Rifle is not new, and well worn in at 15k thru it, shooting with lite lube on the action rails.

So far it been ok since I shoot mostly federal bulk pack. (till my supply runs out :) )
