In music, syncopation involves a variety of rhythms which are in some way unexpected which make part or all of a tune or piece of music off-beat. More simply, syncopation is a general term for "a disturbance or interruption of the regular flow of rhythm": a "placement of rhythmic stresses or accents where they wouldn't normally occur."[1] The correlation of at least two sets of time intervals.[2] ......per wikiopedia

Story time!
As a youngster I decided to participate in music. I could not play an instrument, still can't, but heard about the local Moose Club I believe, was looking for someone to play the bass drum in their youth marching band. Some parade was upcoming. I showed up and being a big boy, was given a tryout. The band was assembled and I was put in harness with the bass. They told me to follow the beat and just hit the drumskin in rhythm! Simple it seems, but I have no rhythm which they discoverered in a short while! 😉 Unable to maintain a simple beat sure messes up a marching band! 😛 The beginning and end of my participating in music. 😢
Ironically my son is very good, being a high school music director, plays multiple instruments, with a tenor sax being his favorite, and jazz a favorite type, but does well in multiple genres! He has been to Ireland and England on music tour, where jazz is well liked.

Back in the "Dark Ages" in my trumpet lesson days, I listened to Dave Brubeck and his group play "Take Five". Interesting timing in that one.
Another talented group is Canadian Brass. Your post mentioning syncopation brought these two groups to mind. Thanks.
Dave
