Story time!
As a youngster I decided to participate in music. I could not play an instrument, still can't, but heard about the local Moose Club I believe, was looking for someone to play the bass drum in their youth marching band. Some parade was upcoming. I showed up and being a big boy, was given a tryout. The band was assembled and I was put in harness with the bass. They told me to follow the beat and just hit the drumskin in rhythm! Simple it seems, but I have no rhythm which they discoverered in a short while!
Unable to maintain a simple beat sure messes up a marching band!
The beginning and end of my participating in music.
Ironically my son is very good, being a high school music director, plays multiple instruments, with a tenor sax being his favorite, and jazz a favorite type, but does well in multiple genres! He has been to Ireland and England on music tour, where jazz is well liked.
