"T" grip adapter comparison thread

I have nothing against any of the makers of grip adapters and own S&W, Pachmyar, Mershon, Tyler, and BK.

I appreciate that Wrangler 5 has stepped up and provided a new and improved product.

I wish someone would step up and provide an aluminum copy of the original but I understand that foundry work is not something to be taken lightly and requires a moderate outlay of cash if it is to be done as more than a hobby.

For now, BK and the secondary market supply my needs.

I've been aware of Tylers, Pachmyrs and other grip adapter and have been using them for decades but, can not find any reference to the Robertson's anywhere. Must not be in business anymore or I've was asleep while they were made?

Robertson's Trading Post. I've bought a number of ten-round magazines from them over the last few years. They are easy to deal with and ship promptly.

Just got another J Frame BK adaptor in the mail today. With a tiny bit of file work on the inside of it, it fits my little Charter Arms Pathfinder .22 Mag perfectly.

I am hoping one of you grip adapter gurus can tell me something about this S&W adapter? It's made of plastic or similar. Only thing that might identify frame size is written in pen "XMRI"

Spin132,

Sorry, we need some sort of scale to help guess what that would fit. Do you have a S&W revolver?

Kevin
Why yes I do Kevin! In retrospect, that was a pretty lazy question I asked. Thought that writing penned on the box would mean something to one of the sages in this group. I guess I really want to know more about this one. Picked it up on EBay several years ago because I had never seen one before (or since). I'll try it on a few and report back. I'll also edit my lazy question out. Thanks for the response!

I've got BK's on my 14-1 and Baby Chiefs and a vintage Tyler brushed aluminum on my 657ND. The BK's are definitely more stable with the two tabs than the Tyler with the one tab. The newer Tyler's may be more stable. Aesthetically, I really like the look of the vintage aluminum Tyler with the stainless finish of the 657 more than the black with blued finish; just my subjective taste. I think they all improve on the looks of revolvers with the Magna stocks.

Ok, I've tried the grip I received from Robertson's and I'm very disappointed in the fit. I tried it on both a round butt K and now my square butt L. I didn't take a pic of the poor fit on the round but here's one of it on the K. I have a pic of a true Tyler on my round butt 64 and the fit is so much better. I wanted another as I gave mine from the 64 to my son for his snub 66. I tried finding another older Tyler polished but didn't have any luck so I went with the Robertson's offering-never again.

I wish the BK was available in a polished metal finish, sigh.

It looks like a little lamp black and a file would have that fitting very nicely.

Pouring aluminum is not easy. Getting accurate molds is also not easy. S&W has been forging frames for how long? By its very nature, forging does not produce identical results. Add in the hand finishing and you should understand how getting an aftermarket adapter to fit is very difficult indeed.

I've had many Tyler's over the years and none of them exhibited the poor fit of the recent offering from Robertson's. I do understand the intricacies of forging and working with aluminum.

The fit of the adapter is much better on the right side, the adapter seems like it has a "twist" in it, not sure how much filing it would take but I may tackle that over the weekend. Thanks for the idea.

Out of curiosity I ordered a Robertson's adapter for comparison's sake. My experience mimics the previous sentiments outlined in this thread. They seem to be of decent enough quality, but the contour isn't quite right. Here's a photo of one on my square-butt Model 10-6, and below that a BK adapter.

I reached out to Robertson's on Ebay and received this reply in regards to fitting.

They will fit some different on round and square. We had to have these molded and manufactured and the molds themselves cost us several thousand dollars. If and when we decide to have specific ones for each made, they will be listed.

We will be happy to accept a return on that one, as they are selling FAST!

On Ebay, search for "smith & wesson grip adapter".

There are actually a couple of the S&W adapters noted above available on there right now.
