If you wanted a real accurate 38 wad cutter gun what would you do? Build one Modify one or other.
What part does things like forcing cone angles and barrel twist have
I assume you would have to play with reloads for ever to accomplish this?
I'm an older shooter and would like to have a truely accurate gun
Thanks for any opinions on this

Judging by the number of guns in the matches , ya gotta believe S&W knows what they're doing with the grand old K-38. That's what I use.

The S&W model 14 is hard to beat.
Finding the right load to get the best accuracy out of any good gun is just experimentation. I`ve had the best luck with Unique powder and semi-wadcutters in this model 14-2.

I agree as well S&W M-14 six inch. The old Colt Officer Model Match guns were also accurate same for 6" Pythons.

I've seen several full house 1970's - 1980's PPC guns, built by name Smiths going for cheap prices the past few years. All the bells and whistles from that period. Bo-Mar ribs, Douglas bull barrels, etc.

Way back when...I shot a std K-38 with the addition of a light Bo-Mar rib. Very nice sight picture, and the rib's additional 6 oz (8?) or so balanced the gun nicely. One wuold have to drill and tap the gun to install a rib though.

I have a 8 3/8" Model 14. I have had good results with 148gr Hollow based wad cutters over 2.7gr Bullseye. This is also accurate in my 7" 686.

If you can find a model 52, it will make a believer out of you in a hurry. More accurate than any .38 I have ever shot, and I've owned a lot of them. K-38, M27, Python, etc. - model 52 puts them all to shame.

Ditto!...or spend buku bucks on a revolver that, most likely, will not do as well as the model 52. I have an accurized Colt OMM 38 with a shortened cylinder and barrel set back for WC only ammo, and the 52 is better.

There can not be any discussion - Model 52 tops all of them .

imho - As far as being plentiuful, available, and reasonably priced you can't beat the K-38...that's what it was born to do. You won't be dissappointed, though with the Mod 52 or a PPC custom like mine built on Mod 10 4 screw below...

I have a 14-2, a standard classic, that shoots very well with its favorite loads using a 148gr hbwc.

But fwiw, I also have a 6" Model 586 that will outshoot it with its favorite 38 Special load using a Speer lswc, eventhough chambered for 357. So go figure.

mod 14 or 15 i have a 14-1 and it is the best shooter i have ever owned! but it was built for the usaf shooting team.my two mod 15s aint bad! the 2 inch gun is a real shooter!
