Hi everyone,
I've been training a lot of drills with my M&P Shield lately and noticed when doing a tactical one handed malfunction drill, I can not use the stock slanted rear sight to rack the slide ( I had to use the fold behind my knee to hold grip and rack that way) well it was effective, I did have to lose my standard grip..
So that got me thinking about a "TacRack" for my shield and what would the pros and cons be for a everyday Conceal Carry??
Anyone use one?
I would think it may print a bit more..Also,Is there a chance it could catch on clothes and takes gun out of battery?
It would be nice though to be able to keep grip and do a rack of slide off of belt or holster etc.
I realize if I am in a one handed position things are bad anyway, but like to train scenarios so not helpless when Shtf. Thanks!

My Beretta PX4 rear sights have about a 45 degree angle on the front of them but I am still able to rack the slide on it one handed using a continuous forceful motion rubbing the top of the slide at the rear sights against my belt ..

All my other pistols have a stepped edge on the front of the rear sights that is easy to use against your belt, leg, table or other objects to rack the slide on them ..

there is a video on YouTube showing someone racking a Glock with just inertia .. the springs on all of mine are way to stiff to do that but in the video it says its a stock Glock .. I don't own one to try to do it to find out .. Maybe someone here on the forum has one and will/would try it to replicate it ..

Or you can just use your knees. Not behind just in between both knees. Or change the sights

Yes, thanks..For whatever reasons I find I have a harder time doing it this way..leverage and direction is more difficult for me between knees, than behind the fold.
Thanks again for the help!

Use the bottom of your shoe. Or your holster or any other hard or semi hard surface.

That's the thing though; with the stock rear sight I don't see how I can do that reliably..That's why I was interested in the TacRack.
Thanks for the reply!

I went to the site and watched the video. Personally, I'd rather just get a good rear sight with as vertical a front face as possible. I know Ameriglo has sights that should work. I think they even made a rear sight called "The Claw" specifically designed for that. Trijicon HD sights are designed for that, but I don't know if they make a model for your gun. I think the standard night sights from Meprolight and Trijicon have fairly vertical front faces on their rear sights.

I had XS Big Dot sights on my Glock 23, and I was able to rack the slide easily with one hand using either my belt or heel with the rear sight, and it's not completely vertical.

I don't believe in adding more than you need to a pistol.

If you feel the need to be abel to rack the slide off your belt, edge of your pocket, seam in your jeans, etc, then just get a rear sight that will accommodate that, rather than adding unnecessary stuff to your pistol.

Yes, I would tend to agree with that too..Makes more sense at this point.
Anyone with experience using TacRack that can give the pros of
installing?

I would (did) change my rear sight to the "CLAW," but with a little twist you can also rack it using the little ledge near the top of the breech face/extractor. Not the best, but doable.

Have the TacRack on my M&P40C and 9C. No problems - BUT easier to rack slide and may be helpful in an emergency. For installation - VERY EASY and quick. Just follow the video. Wish I had something to rack my HS Victors as easy.

Thank You so much for this helpful reply! I am glad to hear that you've had no problems utilizing the TacRack,,only positives :)
Do you use for conceal carry? And if so, any difference with the TacRack printing more? or Snagging on clothing?
I really like the thought of easier one handed emergency racking the slide..
I realize that this is worse case scenario and most likely will never happen...But if it did it would surely be a helpless feeling if you sit there with a gun out of battery and no way to clear the issue.
I can manipulate behind the fold of knee fairly well and also somewhat between my knees, when doing FTF & FTE drills.
However this is under somewhat idea condition scenarios and what really bothers me is if I have a "double feed" while doing this..I am almost sure at this point I would not be able to rack and lock slide back to clear the mag and cycle through with the methods I am using now with my shield..
Whereas I think with utilizing the TacRack,,I could deal with this double feed malfunction too.
Thanks again!!

Thanks for the reply!

But do you need it ?? Have you tried racking it against your belt/shoe/leg/back of knee/ or any where else you can think off .. if you can the need for the device is moot !!

If not it seems to cost around 29 dollars .. while new night sights would cost near 100 or more .. I think I would go with new night sights instead of the TacRac devise . you wouldn't have to worry about it hanging up when drawing from concealment and you would be adding additional ability to the pistol with the night sights !

Just my 2 cents worth that can be had for just a penny when on sale !!

Don't carry regularly, but from time to time and in the car when traveling. I use an OWB Fobus paddle and a Blackhawk paddle. No interference noted so far. Primary reason I bought was to be sure I can more easily rack. Installed both myself in about 3 minutes each. Wet or oily hands also considered. But at 80, need every advantage.

I have used solid objects, table corners, holsters, doors, corners of walls, shoes, belts/buckles etc. I don't like having to find something if I need to do a tap rack with one hand. What I have done is to add a small piece of skateboard tap to the top of the slide between the ejection port an rear sight. To do a tap rack with one hand I bend my right leg bringing it up and striking the bottom of the magazine with my knee or leg. Keeping my leg up I twist the gun around and rack the slide on the side of my pants. The whole time I have a firm grip on the firearm and am ready to shoot very quickly. If I have to do this while moving I just rack on the side the gun is on probably along the seam.

Yes,,with my M&P full size I can do all this as noted..
However, with the Shield it's a bit more difficult and I believe I will either need a different rear sight or TacRack to be able to do a reliable one hand rack of slide in that manner of "hooking".
I can reliably use the fold behind my knee..and between knees somewhat reliable.
Just would be nice to have the "hooking" option too..

Thanks!
