Take a look at my freshly refinished "Royal Blue" Colt 1991A1 Compact Clark Meltdown

Are you kidding me?

First, it's a Colt 1911. Second, it's Clark's "meltdown" package; for those who may be wondering...this is a wonderful thing. Third, the sights should be great performers. Fourth, the bluing is superb...some of the best I have ever seen. (This coming from a huge fan of the 1911 platform and Colts in general)

Please do not relegate it to safe duty only...this one needs yearly attention at the range or out on the farm.

Thank you for posting and sharing this with us.

Thanks for the compliments, all. Couldn't bring myself to carry it today, I want my Dad to see it before I bugger anything up so it'll be Friday before it sees leather.

Your kidding!!! You are going to carry this gun? It's way to nice for that. Don

I would have left the rollmarks on the slide, but that's one heck of a nice job, nice gun

Hello WC145,
I'd be willing to wrestle you for it and I don't even know how to wrestle! Beautiful gun, Congratulations.

Beautiful, beautiful gun...probably the best looking gun I have ever seen.

Would you be willing to say how much that refinish job cost?

Thanks again for the compliments everyone.

The job totaled just under $500, not including the MSH, I paid for that seperately and had it shipped to the shop. Very reasonable for the quality of the work, I think.

Any compliments given - I'll second that. It is like liquid silver - very nice. I could not bring myself to holstering it - that is definately a safe queen.
Congrats.

Nah, no safe queen there. It was my off duty gun when it was ugly, it's still my off duty gun now that it's pretty.

Awesome.
Anybody got any comparable melted guns maybe even revolvers?
This is the only Clark Meltdown revolver I've ever seen is this S&W 638. It is not mine, it belongs to a guy that calls himself Xavierbreath on the forums, the pic is from his blog. The work was done in 2010, from what I've seen the more recent Meltdowns I've seen are less radical than mine which was done around '97/'98, shortly after Clarks began offering it.

I think that is a great price! I've got a Colt Commander that currently has a black finish, and as it wears, I may have it refinished in something like this. Mine won't have the melt treatment, of course, but the finish should look very good.
