Hi:
At the local High School this afternoon, I observed ROTC Students taking down the American Flag. They then balled it up and went inside the School !
I requested that They fold the Flag properly and was told "This Is The Way We Always Fold The Flag Up" ????

Question: Did I wake up in a different American this morning ???

Yes you did. This is America in name only. We have a government that does not follow the laws of this once great land. Morals have been abandoned. Right is wrong and Left is right. Patriots and Vets are domestic terrorist. Christians are vilified and evil is promoted as normal and healthy. The time that talking about it to raise awareness to fix things is long gone. When the government disobeys the law, then there is no law, it is time to prepare.

I'm a JROTC instructor and work with a SNCO. Every JROTC detachment is allowed an officer and at least one NCO. A quick "hey, did you know" call ought to set things right.

We've suspended kids we had on flag detail who acted improperly. It's serious business and our cadets take on the duty as an honor.

I put up the flags at our Air Base when I was in the military police. First it was at base headquarters then across base to another location. Imagine my distress when upon returning to my station I noticed I had the flag at Headquarters upside down. I think I set a record for flag lowering / flag raising that morning. Partied a little too long the night before, I imagine.

Yet, on the other hand I was playing TAPS last Memorial Day in a local cemetary where the Young Marines were asked to raise the flag, and then half mast it to commemorate the occasion.

Interesting reaction when I sounded To The Colors and the Young Marines reacted exactly as they should have. They all snapped to attention, presented a proper salute and with a great deal of reverence, dignity and honor for the occasion posted the flag and lowered to half mast.. I then sounded TAPS and they stood tall and proud as they should!

They were just as impressive as an active duty unit of Marines....just not quite as tall!!

All is NOT lost yet........

I think they were never Boy Scouts with leaders that were WW II Vets like I had...... :(

The Boy Scout's in the Troop my son belongs to all know the proper way. Heck, I think all the Cub Scouts in the affiliated Pack know. At least at some point they're all taught.

BTW, you just gave me a great test for the next Eagle Scout board of review I attend.

Our flag, IMHO, is the most beautiful flag in the world. I used to make the presentation frames to hold not only the flag but military awards as well. I had to learn how to fold the flag for presentation and I respected why this was done. The ROTC unit involved here was obviously never given the training.

It hurts to see people stomping on our flag and the total disrespect people have for it. The pledge of allegiance is not done in schools much anymore like we did every day when we were kids.

The first and second amendments are also under attack. It's gotten to the point where free speech is only free if everybody agrees with you. Almost every day I hear of some politician that wants to pass a law with regard to our right to bear arms.

I hate to sit here and see where our great country is going.

Most of the people in our neighborhood support our local Boy Scout troop by contributing $35 a year for them to place a flag in front of each house on all federal holidays. They've drilled the curbs for the flag poles and come out early in the morning to place the flags. In the evening they're back to take them all down. I've watched them do this and they always handle every flag with respect.
