Talk me into (or out of) a 4506 buy...((Update w. pics))

I like the 4506. Six months prior to my retirement we were issued new 4506, mine had been to the range once (50 rounds), to replace our 645 pistols. As is customary I was given my service pistol upon retirement. It was cleaned and has not been fired since, sitting in the safe, happy and warm.

You bought it....OK

For future reference.................................

Take 70 - your age = x

Divide (asking price- what you want to pay) ( in this case $50) by X

X= annual extra cost........ which I bet is equal to; at most, a couple of Starbucks/year ..... unadjusted for future inflation..............

Picked the 4506 up a while ago. This baby is about spotless!! Although it looked real good when field strip inspecting it before purchase, she cleaned up even better. Can't wait to dirty it up.
Thanks to all who convinced me to buy it!! I'm a happy camper.

Congrats. You definitely won't be disappointed. Report back after you take it out and get it nice and dirty.

Thanks for the compliments and all replies!!

The 4506 with the aforementioned .45s, the 4566 and 4513 (Shorty). Next range trip will include all 3.
Sorry about the horrible pic quality. Can't ever save enough money to afford a good camera :D

Bam-Bam i'm gonna try your math next time to wife for my next purchase.
I don't think Bam's math works in my case. First off, being 65 years old, I think Bam is saying that I've only got 5 years left to live! Or perhaps he is saying that I've only got 5 good years left, after which I should be sellin', not buyin'! Either way, it doesn't sound so good to me. :p And what about the poor folks who are already 70 or older? What are they to do?

On the other hand, if we use an age of 100 as the benchmark, then my costs go down and I can buy more 3rd Gens. :D :D :D

I like my math better! :)

TTSH....relax; don't try to over analysis ...just try to enjoy these last "few" good years....... don't over think it .... eat more salads;at least you'll be regular..... if it's too much; ....take it home; have if for lunch tomorrow............ you might be good for ....Oh...maybe... another 25-30 years.......who can say ....... but if you are regular....................

Those of you over 70 drop me a PM ......

I'll give you a shipping address.......estate planning is important...... you know!!!!!!

Very nice firearm. You did well. Now all it needs is a straight grip to not feel like a wall flower among the other 2. :p
I prefer the straight grip on my 5906 VS the curved grip.

I have a S&W 1911, 645 and 4506 all with original boxes and paperwork. It''s really a problem deciding which one to take to the range. aug a good problem.:D

Look at it this way.. you might think you overpaid...it's not so much paying too much, it's just buying it early.. Give it a few more years and the $$ you spent will have been the good old days.

I wish I had followed my own advice when I let a 1006 get past me a few years ago.

Back in late 2012 I was telling my cousin (who has an FFL) that I sure would like to own some kind of 3rd Gen S&W pistol. He told me at that moment he could get me a LEO trade-in 5906 with 2 mags for $275 plus shipping. Of course I didn't hesitate to get it. And, look at what a 5906 sells for today. I am glad I "pulled the trigger" and bought it! :p

Not a big fan - carried a 4506 for years on duty. Rear sight constantly slid out of adjustment, and once - after a qualification - I discovered the front barrel bushing, which slides over the barrel, was completely missing from the slide. Nothing but problems.

Any of your coworkers have the same problems? Did you ask for another ever?
