Suggestions please.

I am looking for a tap and die set that has the 'standard' taps for revolver screws.
Some of the work will be on guns from the early 1900's with the majority being from 1940/50's on.
The taps need to have a flat end, aka bottoming taps.

I'm not attempting any gunsmithing builds or conversion just using these by hand to clean up existing threads.

I'm not sure about dies since most of the screws are so small that a good brush, and maybe a jewelers file, can clean any damaged threads.

I need a new set, recently I found that many of my existing set seems to have gotten the urge to wander away and want to see I can find one that has the small sizes.
Individual tap/dies are expensive by themselves.

While such a set may exist, I have never seen one. Maybe someone else here knows more about such things. Try Brownell’s.

I have never seen or heard of such a set. Bad News - You will have to buy the ones you want individually. Good News - You can get most or all of them at Victor Machinery (Victor Machinery - Metalworking tools and supplies)
for very good prices. These are quality tools. I have bought from them for many years.

There are lots of high quality taps and dies. The prices will be way more than Victor Machinery. None of them will have nearly the thread pitch selection of Victor. Look at the website.

Most gun threads are oddball thread pitches because the manufacturers back then wanted proprietary parts so everyone could only buy parts from them. A few people could make their own parts, but not very many, just like now.

Any prepackaged set will only have a few of the sizes one might need. You would be paying for a lot of tools you may never use.

I have bought at least a half dozen oddball taps and dies from Victor. And at one time, and maybe still, they would custom make them in whatever thread and pitch you wanted if they couldn’t supply from stock. It has been a long time since I bought mine so I know not their present business practices and prices.

I have fairly complete sets of both SAE and metric taps and dies, and have never used at least 90% of them. That is the problem with buying sets. You will have bought many items you will never need.

Thanks for the link. You just can't have too many links to sources of "oddball" stuff :)

Another useful website is British Tools and Fasteners in Lyons NY. Gunsmithing-wise, they have BA thread stuff, which is found on some old British firearms like Martini rifles.
