I have used JB Weld quite a lot for repairing old castings of zinc as in lamps, statues, etc. They make a 5 minute and an overnight cure. The overnight cure is by far stronger than the 5 Minute type. I also suggest you check you local hardware store for some binding post connectors. They are aluminum screws and a post for joining furniture together. They are threaded 8/32. You could cut off the threaded part and JB Weld it into your existing hole and use the screw for the grips.

The posts are made by Hillman and come one per package.
I have measured one of the posts. It is two tenths of an inch OD.
If you still have excess epoxy on the frame a few quick passes with a propane torch will break the bond. Bruce
